Justifying pricing of DLC

After the release of more DLC I feel again a bit hard done by the pricing. The Speed track and car pack came to £7.98 and for many gamers I'm sure they have been put off by this especially as a test track has been included in past GTs. But what strikes me is that PD has the ability to make these adds on great value. Why not create events specifically for these? For example why not add in special events specifically for this track. For example a Red Bull X race and a Le Man car race or NASCAR you could even be a little bit ridiculous and put it as a kart race ;-). Medals depending on top speed, drag race? And for the new cars why not an electric car series or Aston Series etc. The reason why I am suggesting these is that it does not require anything new for PD to create everything is there for them, not too time consuming and adds to the game value. I am aware there is online lobbies and leagues but it can be hard to find what you want and time consuming to compete in races. Come on PD

P.S. Gran Turismo 5 is so close to being one of the greatest games ever

Good point. I think it will feature in the seasonals fairly soon. Spa has now appeared in 1 or 2 recently, but yeah, special invents involving karts, NASCAR or Le Mans would be pretty cool.

Re: Justifying pricing of DLC

Yeah it was pleasing to see some seasonals but only a hand full of races/time trials and released some time after the DLC release date

Re: Justifying pricing of DLC

Up to a point I don't min, 3.49 for 1 track is a bit steep...unless we are funding GT6 production!

Re: Justifying pricing of DLC

Yeah, I bought both packs, hard not to really.

The Test Track will feature in some seasonals, I am sure.  Although people should expect these events to be very similar to the License Test although perhaps more advanced forcing players to advance tune their vehicles.  PD may even go as far to host a Drag time trial.  Who knows.

Anyway, I'm more than happy to support my favorite title on the PS3.

I would have paid the combined pack price just for that V12 Vantage. No word of a lie, I sat looking at it for over 30 mins, contantly re-selecting it just to hear the engine fire. Beautiful.

Re: Justifying pricing of DLC

The way it would work in my eyes is that we all know they have started GT6 and that project is going to have a budget, but to take someone or a small team off that to do DLC is going to take time and for them to recover the lost man / women hours as they will be paid via the GT6 budget they have to charge for DLC to gain that back so they finish on budget.

For we know the DLC could be the the few things that Kaz wanted more time for so these could be put in the game.

One more thing can anyone see any room for another option just like how the speed test filled that gap quite nicely.

I bought the car pack and the speed test pack had ever so much fun last night on it quite a few great races won one in the Bugatti that was fun I will have to capture it and upload it to YouTube.

Re: Justifying pricing of DLC

I have yet to be convinced that the new track is all that great for actually racing on.

For me, it is what it is, a "test" track. And as for the cost, it isn't just the track that we have paid for, but also the additional function to test for acceleration and top speed. And I am totally happy with that. I had cobs of fun last night testing a couple of different cars.

As for GT6... I hope it never arrives, seriously. I like the idea of continual updates and DLC. If GT6 comes out, will I have to start over with license tests and the like? I'm just a bit long in the tooth and, although I have thoroughly enjoyed my Gran Turismo journey thus far, I couldn't be bothered doing certain parts of it again. Online challenges and racing against fellow humans is where it's at for me.

I can see, however, that unless there are other like minded people, I will be racing on my own in years to come. I'll deal with that when I get there.........

Re: Justifying pricing of DLC

I did think they were a bit expensive to be honest, but I do love GT5 and we have got a lot for free so far as well, but yeah, hopefully more than 1 track for nearly 4 quid next time lol

When GT4 came out you could select an option to transfer you GT3 data of the licences to GT4 but it only puts them as bronze but I did not have to do them again.

Re: Justifying pricing of DLC

[ Edited ]

this track does seem a bit steep to me, especially when you consider:

  1. the last track pack cost £4 and had a realworld track and 2 variations of a kart track
  2. the speed test features and track were included in all previous GT games from release

i had expected it to be added at some stage as a free addition in a patch but i still bought it though :smileytongue:
