PS3 died, so i've lost my game save - start all over again?

9 Replies 1,817 Views Created 02-07-2012

Last week my PS3 decided to die and refuse to reboot, so I was unable to back up all my saves etc. Would I be correct in saying I now have to start GT5 all over again? or is my data somehow stored online? I've just checked my psn details on the gran-turismo website, and its still showing my licences and game progress, but when I tried the game, i'm back at the very start?

So I guess i'll be starting from scratch?

Unless you saved your progress on PS PLUS or to a mem-stick, then you must start from scratch.

Why not just take out the hard drive from your broken PS3, put it in someone else's then copy all your saves to a USB stick? Or do you have one of those silly slim ones?

won't work. verified. someone else's ps3 only asks "do you want to format hard drive" and that's all.

Yes, the drive will not work in another machine, the only option will be a format. Unfortunately all I can advise is to send your console to a 3rd party repairer rather than sony and they will (hopefully) be able to fix it so you can recover the data. I'm having to do that at the moment because even though I have PS+ and I backed up all my important saves, there are many things on there I hadn't manually backed up. It is also a launch day 60Gb so there is an emotional element to getting it repaired, I have bought a new slim in the meantime!

Install the HDD on a PC instead. Run it as a secondary drive.

won't help either.

when you have no backup of your savegame then your only hope is reviving your dead ps3 and hopefully for long enough to back up your save.

Yes, your best bet is to have a pro try to fix the console.

Even better is to find one that will replace the leadless solder with leaded solder, then you won't have as many problems with it.

Most of the pros will successfully reflow the motherboard.

Mines with Console Doctor now, quoted 69.99 to reball with lead solder. They have had it for a week so far, so I can't say how good / succesful it is. Just realised they have had ifor a week, think I'll chase them to see how much longer it will be.

One other thing worth trying is the hairdryer trick. There are some helpful video's on youtube worth looking up. The effect won't last very long, but should give you enough time to backup your game saves and any other data you wish to keep.

Works for me every time I get hit with YLOD.
