This is how I feel about the matter. You 2 LFS nerds are annoying the **** outta me with your constant attempts at converting everyone to the "driving sim revolution". Not that it means much but I lose respect for you both everytime I hear that crap. I don't mind seeing pictures and videos of LFS (great movie by the way, Arthur) all the time because they do break up the banter in The Pit Stop. What I don't like is that a game that has brought everyone here is being heckled down to the realm of an arcade racer by the likes of you two "comic book guys"!

Worst Driving Simulator EV-ER!

Re: Questions and Answers

Well, each to his own I guess. Maybe I'm overplaying a bit. GT4 is an ok sim, but I just want more :smileyhappy:

Lets say my goal is to atract attention to some of the flaws GT is carrying to fix them :smileytongue:

oh, and thanks for the comment on the vid  Did you finally get Broadband, Red?

Re: Questions and Answers

Well, each to his own I guess. Maybe I'm overplaying a bit. GT4 is an ok sim, but I just want more :smileyhappy: I can understand that. I have serious issues with how the front end reacts in conjunction with the rear. The reason you can't oversteer in GT4 is because the front falls into understeer far too easily. A major, major flaw!
I've started looking past GT4's engine and on to GT-HD's. The improvements have been amazing- you can lift-off oversteer realisticly among many new improvements. Yes, I know it's an inferior engine now GT5-P is out, but it's all I've got to go on. And judging by the reaction to GT5-P's game engine by GTP members, GT5 will be up there with the best sims in terms of realistic physics.

Lets say my goal is to atract attention to some of the flaws GT is carrying to fix them :smileytongue:
Yes hahaha etc. But seriously, criticizing is good if it's constructive. You can't just say "This game is ****" and leave it at that, because no-one will take you seriously. That's why discussions on GTP are so good; no one tolerates that kinda crap. If you're gonna say stuff you gotta be willing to back it up with a lengthy description of why it's ****. Basically what I'm getting at is that there's a way to say "This game is ****" and have people respect that. From GTP members I've learnt that GT4 is hugely overrated as a driving sim. From some people on here I've learnt that they like LFS and dislike GT4 :smileytongue: .

oh, and thanks for the comment on the vid  Did you finally get Broadband, Red?
I've had broadband for ages, yet I have limits and peak and off-peak to contend with. I've watched a fair few of your vids, Arthur. Your drift vids are quite excellent, and make me feel quite inadequate at times  .

Re: Questions and Answers

I agree with you, Red. Most probably the reason for such comment from me was the lazyness:smileyhappy: I guess my critising of GT physics engine in Suggestion box can be count as constructive :smileyhappy:

oh :smileysurprised: dind't know that. Last time I spoke on MSN with you, u had dial up :smileyhappy:

as for drift vids...u haven't really seen anything good from me :smileywink:

Re: Questions and Answers

Art's vids aren't bad but compared to some of the stuff a few members have done it's not that great.

Physics Flaws

I don't agree with Red's commentary about how the physics system in GT works in regards to oversteer. I'd certainly apply it to TT, but not to GT4, but that's understandable because bike physics are another piece of cake altogether.

How can you say that the front end of the car reacts drastically to the rear? Getting lift off oversteer is a piece of cake on most cars save front wheelers. I think there is an issue with you carrying excessive entry speed into corners - carrying too much speed, regardless of car, will almost always outstrip front-end grip and induce understeer.

Personally I find the physics engine of GT to be the best I've come across in many games. Sure it isn't perfect, but you show me a game that's better.

I'm not interested in LFS. From what I see, it looks like a cheap imitation of many other racing games. Maybe I'm wrong, but if the game was that good, surely it would have licenced cars, or the physics engine would have been bought by a bigger developer.

But I haven't played it, so maybe I'm just sandbagging, but until someone shows me otherwise, I still gotta pay homage to Kaz and the PD team.

I think there is an issue with you carrying excessive entry speed into corners - carrying too much speed, regardless of car, will almost always outstrip front-end grip and induce understeer.I do understand how and why understeer occurs. I guess my issue is indirectly related to understeer, rather then directly. The real issue is GT4's interpretation of inertia slapback- it's far to sensitive. It's hard to hold a drift because of it. You get off the throttle and countersteer slightly and suddenly you're off-line and understeering your way back onto the raceline.

Personally I find the physics engine of GT to be the best I've come across in many games. Sure it isn't perfect, but you show me a game that's better.
Go to your local Harvey Norman, push the kid playing the PS3 outta the way and hop on the GT-HD demo. That's the only other sim I've played in the last 6 months and it's amazing. Like going from GT2 to GT4 physics all over again.

I also haven't played lfs (my pc is a dinosaur- 18gig harddrive anyone?). I believe that many people would think you're wrong. Lfs is a good game because it ain't shackled by licenced cars. Am I on the right track line?

What other games you've played?

You haven't tryed the game at ALL so that comment hardly makes sence...
Is it that hard to download a 128mb install file?

Maybe I'm wrong, but if the game was that good, surely it would have licenced cars, or the physics engine would have been bought by a bigger developer.

You are definetly wrong. It has licenced cars (not many but still). And I'd like to see how many licenced cars GT1 would have if Kaz had no sponsors and only a 3 men team of devs

Being a big company involed in making sims doesn't mean to have a good physics engine. Look at SimBim. They are quite a big studio, but ISI physics engine is hardly good. Hence even GT4's engine feels better. (not Like GT4's physics engine that bad.Its quite limited by PS2 hardware and It has some flaws, but ISI has even more)

a bit off topic:
I really believe that Kaz wants GT4 to be realstic as possible, and I see now reason stopping GT5 from being so...except one. GT is a console game and console games are meant to be orientated on masses of people. Which includes 8year old people till 99year old grandmas... Ofcourse not everyone has a racing talant, knowledge bla bla bla .... so devs of console racing games are forced (most of times) to dumb their games down to let the majority enjoy it. Hardcore sim racers are a minority...Most of this minority is based on PC sims for obvious reasons.
Allthough there were some exceptions, some good sims on PS2 (Enthusia comes into mind), but it only proved that its a minority's favorite with it's sails.

I also haven't played lfs (my pc is a dinosaur- 18gig harddrive anyone?). I believe that many people would think you're wrong. Lfs is a good game because it ain't shackled by licenced cars. Am I on the right track line?
Yup u are :smileywink:. oh btw, LFS requirements are very low :smileyvery-happy:
Hope that was constructive enough answer :smileywink:
