He's only trying to help, where as your post is just pointless. As someone else has just posted, try and keep it away from other heat source and vacuum it whenever you have the vac out. I have a launch 60 gig phatty, plays nowt but COD and GT5, everything is good here

I am putting out the reason!
So, I was playing GT5 on friday just passed and me and my cousin were flying round the Top Gear test track and our dinner was ready so I paused the game and came back later (about 20 mins). About 5 mins later 'BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP!' and I had a red flashing light. I then kept on trying to turn it on but after a min it would conk out again, if left for a wile (1 hour) it would run a little longer but continue to conk out!. So, the heat heats up the motherboard, turn off the PS3 and it cools down (my PS3 is a 4 year old 60gb). This over a long amount of time would cause the chip on the motherboard to come off every time it heats up (my problem). The reason for this is that GT5 puts so much pressure on the processor that it 'really' heat's up. Making this problem 'a problem'. just letting you know!.
So you said that you would not come one here and say "GT5 killed my console", but then you say that GT5 puts too much pressure on the processor that it really heats up, Making this problem 'a problem'? Unless I'm missing something here, you're contradicting yourself.
Also, everytime I hear a story about the Yellow light of death, (Not Red Light of Death) It's always referring to the 60GB model. Isn't it amazing that you seem to...you know.....be using a 60GB model. Maybe there's a coincidence hmm?

Yes, you are correct. Since I made this thread in march, I done a reflow at the same time. My PS3 works and hasn't broken again yet
.
It's due to break this month however...

My 60gb phat got YLOD three times, each fixed with a re flow / heat gun technique on Youtube. Eventually ot sick of dismantling it each time and bought a slim, no probelms. 60gb's seem to be renouned for this problem. My sympathy goes out to anyone with YLOD, try the heat gun, you can save your data, but system is probably on its last legs!

Okay... Yesterday my PS3 broke again... looks like a 3 month thing. ![]()

Damn I am on my third 40 phatty. I do use it once in a blue moon though, but now you got me worried since i play GT5 a lot recently. I know 40 is not 60, but I have 250 shoved in it (5200 rpm). First time BD didn't stand a chance against bundled GTA IV and broke after nearly a year of light weight usage (I don't play that often), the refurbed one that came couldn't stand 20 minutes without overheating itself. Just like someone here replied me - some people win on lottery, I just get 54itty PS3s.
GT5 isn't worth frying black box and I still haven't touched Red Dead Redemption!
I had a doubt right now whether to buy X360 or not. If I do and PS3 dies on me again, I won't be able to replace it. Damn you Sony and your 1 year warranty. To think that I still got perfectly working NES, SNES and Amiga 600! Didn't break on me and they can heat up like crazy. They just don't make electronics like they used to...

Had our 60gb from uk launch, swapped out the hd three years ago and it ran alot cooler.
its still going strong and is used daily by our whole family.
have always hoovered it weekly as it sucks dust in like a dyson.
The only game that really seemed to make it run the fan at max was la noire but gt does seem to give it a good workout.

I wouldn't call it good...
