SFS Sunday 23-05-2010 (The Great Rapprochement)

[ Edited ]

This Sunday we will be running a joint event with the American SFS (TPRA)

As they are 5 to 9 hours behind us this should give racing into the wee small hours for those that want.

(Although I suspect that for our Sunday morning some US night birds might drop by)

The TPRA also use Teamspeak so I have posted instructions for this again.

Even if you cannot get a mic setup, just hooking up so you can listen in might be worth while.

"Sucker free Sunday" is an open invitation to all GT Prologue racers to come down to a track each week and have some fun, and hopefully make some friends along the way.

Every week a specific track/car combination will be posted here on the OPC forum, and a set of "matching" times that drivers can start races at.

The idea is not so much of a tournament or league (no leaderboards or prizes), but more of a track day to get to know fellow drivers from this forum.

By getting you to use the specified car, once within a race you should be able to identify others from the forum by the fact they are running the same vehicle.

Sunday 23-05-2010 SFS we will be at Pro PP700: Fuji F.

Car to bring is the Aston Martin DB9

Start times will be 12, 27, 42 and 57 mins past the hour (i.e. 9.12, 9.27, 9.42, 9.57)

Many of you have linked in before and have the SFS text chat room already.

If you see a new face at the event, please feel free to send them an invite out to join the text chat room as I have done before for you.

And if you are new to the event and want to receive an invite to the text chat in advance, send an "Add a Friend" request to me (Ronin_Systemdek) and I will hook you up.

This is an all day event, with the idea that you join in at whatever time of the day is most suitable for you.

So if you know when you are likely to be on track please feel free to post in this thread and let others know.

To make sure you sync with the starting times correctly please check you have set your PS3 clock.

(Goto - Settings - Date and Time Settings - and choose "Set via Internet")

The meaning of "Sucker Free" is that the racing should be clean, no bashing, no blocking, no corner cutting (at least not intentionally).

If anyone is struggling with tuning for this event, there are several Internet sources for Prologue tunes.

Or if you think you have a good tuning setup please post it here for others to try (I have my own which I will put here if requested).

See you all Sunday.

Please use plain text.

Re: SFS Sunday 23-05-2010 (The Great Rapprochement)

The TPRA have very kindly offered us the use of their VOIP using a system called Team Speak.

This allows people that have a computer to hand with either a bluetooth or wired headset, to have in game chat while they race.

For those that are interested here are the details.

Why Team Speak?
The single most critical aspect of online racing is the ability to communicate with the other drivers while on and off the track. Why would you need to communicate you ask?

GT 5 Prolouge currently does not support VOIP or private rooms. As a result it can be difficult to find a race with skilled responsible drivers. A work around this is using VOIP communications and the game clock to coordinate start times. By having a group of drivers all start at the same instant using the game clock we are able to get most if not all participating drivers into a single room. This keeps the number of undesirable drivers to a minimum, thus improving our chances of getting a good clean race with drivers we know and respect.

How do you get started.
If you are familiar with TS you can find the server by manually changing the IP address at the top of the sign-in box to:
ts52.light-speed.com or 174.37.17.111
port 4388
No password required

Setup instructions

TeamSpeak download >>>
http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads

Run client install, enter the address and port above and your user name, no password is required.

Terms of Service.

VOIP servers are provided free of charge courtesy of the TPRA and are made available to anyone who wishes to use them providing they adhere to the following guidelines:

The Lobby is only an entry point and may not have chat enabled, choose whether to enter a race room or chat room from there
The Lounge channel is structured as a meeting place for general discussions, and a place where you can get together with your friends and discuss general topics.

Use the room appropriate to what you are doing, if chatting you should not be in a race room.
When racing in an event go to the room for your class group.
You can hang out in the main chat room while racing, but dont expect quiet because your in a tight race or tough corner.
While in a race designated room keep chat to a minimum and relevant to the race.
Foul language is not permitted, most members have children and some still are, you never know who is listening.
All drivers using voice communications are at no time permitted to be abusive to another driver.
Failure to adhere to this guideline can result in a temporary or permanent ban from the server.
This includes, but is not limited to, name calling, yelling, or any other use of derogatory terms towards another member whether they are present or not.
As well, discussions of any kind that could be offensive, lead to heated discussion, or that may be in any way an annoyance to others in the room are not permitted.
Topics such as religion, politics and cultural differences are not permitted.

Being disruptive is not permitted and can result in being warned and/or banned either temporarily or permanently from using the service.

Spamming the chat, or posting inappropriate or offensive links can also result in a warning, which could will lead to either a temporary or permanent ban.

Broadcasting or recording is strictly prohibited and will result in being banned from the server.

Having fun is mandatory!!
If you have any questions, concerns or complaints you can text message any of the server admins denoted with a silver shield with an "S" beside thier name, or send a message through the
WWW.TunersPit.com comment box or forum.

Thanks!
The GT5P Tuners Pit Staff

Re: SFS Sunday 23-05-2010 (The Great Rapprochement)

If your computer does not have a mic now, you can buy a separate one for a dollar (or whatever) in a local discount store and use the PC's speakers, although a chat headset is a better set of kit. Even they can be had for a few bucks, or your old PS2 Logitech one works.

TeamSpeak 3 works on both the Mac and Linux (I can help you install it, if you can't figure it out), too, so literally anyone with a computer should be able to use voice.

Re: SFS Sunday 23-05-2010 (The Great Rapprochement)

Well I finally sorted out the bluetooth on my laptop, only to find the mic on my headset refuses to work. So sound but no voice. Might switch back to the built in mic and speakers, but that picks up too much background noise to use "in race". See you guys when I wake up....
