So WHY is GT5 being reviewed against a different yardstick as other games?

Surely games should all be measured the same.   It's even the most braindead that GT5 is a generation ahead of Forza3 in terms of physics and graphics, so why is it being reviewed under a microscope?????

It's laughable how so many sites are destroying their credability by underrating GT5.

But is it having unfair reviiews?

or is it a case that some people will not dare see anything bad said about it?

I still haven't brought it, was going to get it for Christimas, but so far, the more reviews I read, the less decided I am that I want to buy it.

Take the review on the register

http://www.reghardware.com/2010/12/03/games_review_gran_turismo_5/

I suspect loads of people who love the series will slate that review, but when I read the copmments from people who have played the game, comments such as
I am and have been for a long time a GT fanboi. which is why it pains me so much to admit the failings of this game
and see that most of the other comments are agreeing with the reviewer, I have to ask myself whose being honest, those reviewers and people that have played the game and finding it lacking, or those complaining about the reviews in the GT5 section of the PS3 forum?

I personally don't think its anything special. The graphics aren't as good as people make out and racing games will always get compared even more so on different consoles.

Re: So WHY is GT5 being reviewed against a different yardstick as other games?

The reason GT5 is getting poor reviews is because, given the length of time it was in develpment, it IS a poor quality game.

It has had 2 updates in the week since it was released, one of these required downloading as the game was 1st installed...from day 1. Access to online services is pathetic, reports of cars being lost by using online sharing, and the copy protection of game saves (in a game that could be played for years), all detract from premium priced game that took 5 years to develop.

This is not to say that Im not enjoying the game, I am. It is however, a poor quality game, which I would not reccoment to anyone who was not a fan of the GT series.

I really don't understand why people are still complaining about this game. I see this as a none fanboy as well, who as enjoyed most GT's and Forza 2 and 3.

The graphics are the best I've ever seen, or there must be something wrong with my eyes, because I can't find a fault with it.

The handling is by far the most realistic and punishing.

Career with additional events thrown in is well structured.

Problems with gifting cars and stuff is to be expected with the size of the community. I should imagine there's a lot of gifting going on in this game. I for one seem to send my 1 car a day allowance every day.

Multiplayer as taken a kicking for the fact too many people are hitting it at once. Even Black Ops suffered from this on release, and is still doing so now.

Think that covers it, now time to go back and play it!

[ Edited ]

Every reviewer is being really petty with GT5. So what if it's been in development for 5 years, so what if it took slightly long to load on the first couple of days, so what if you can't unlock damage until your good enough.

Im loving this game, more than any other on the PS3. I haven't played anything else since getting it, which is a first for me. Ive always loved the Gran Turismo series, but i have only really been hooked to the PSP version previously (until i got a new psp go and it deleted my save :smileysad:)

People complaining because you can't get interior view in every car. Have you even tried racing with that viewpoint? It's cool for a second, but if you want to win (especially on later races) then the first person view (no interior) is the way to go. Also the difference between standard and premium cars are minute, i end up having to searching up a car in the dealership to find out if it's standard or not. They just look identical when your focused on a race. If your not focused, then your not enjoying the type of game, so you might as well not be playing it. Plus everything else people are moaning about is just stupid. Ive had no problems at all with anything in the game.

If you want a great racing game, go and buy Gran Turismo 5. If you are the type of person who plays with their nose touching the screen (ie these reviewers for some reason), don't buy it (or in fact any game, because they're all the same at that viewpoint).

Re: So WHY is GT5 being reviewed against a different yardstick as other games?

Each review is the opinion of 1 person! and yes there is quite a few reviewers who have downplayed GT5 but in no way at all is it a bad game like they make it out to be.

First of all if this game was multiplat it would be scoring 9.5s and 10s all over the board.

Secondly half the reviewers reviewing GT5 ain't car racing gamers.

If people want to go with reviewers on this game and knock it before even trying it then go ahead and do that. But yous are missing out on a great game that can take hundreds of hours of your free time without you getting bored of it.

The simple thing about reviews these days is they are very broken and a lot of these website will have a lot to answer for when they don't take into consideration the points on which they marked down GT5 for other games they will be reviewing in the future.

Care to elaborate a little more on why GT5 disappoints so much and is a poor quality game or is the points mentione in this post the reason why?

Wait a minute...something's wrong here...

I agree there's loads that could be better...but the register said this...

"For all its impressive physics and handling, and for all its vast array of modes, tracks and cars, GT5 is a long way short of perfection. Owing to development origins on the PS2, it's arguably the worst looking Triple-A racer of this generation, miles behind Forza 3, Dirt 2 and F1, and even a few car lengths behind Blur."

Yeah, right then.

Re: So WHY is GT5 being reviewed against a different yardstick as other games?

the reason why gt5 is recieveing below par review is due to it being so long in development- that caused peoples expectations to explode about the game. If you ignore the development time and assume that we DIDN'T have he long wait (say only 1 year of development) people would largely be claiming that gt5 is the best game ever.

I for one think it is awesome, there seems to be less series to race in than in gt4 but truly in my case i think less is more, the graphics are awesome (only slight problem i have noticed is the shadows- but who cares about that when your racing). Not really explored the online much yet, but to be honest i am not to fussed about it- i have always considered GT to be an offline game and enjoy the challange that side of the game offers.

At the end of the day this is only my opinion. My advice to people unsure of whether or not to purchase it is this, if you enjoy the gran turismo series you should enjoy this, so get it. If however your not really much of a GT fan (you just like racing games in general), see if you can rent/borrow a copy and try it- if you don't like it give it back and wipe from your hard drive- simple yet effective!
