Steering-wheel "required"? +Steering-wheel w/o pedals?

Hi all,

I haven't had a console since my Playstation 1, where I *loved* Gran Turismo (was that v. 2 or something?) and on witch I finished GT and generally was a really good driver ... well, aren't we all he he :smileyhappy:

I recently spent a year and a half in hospital, and must now use a wheelchair, due to an infection that damaged the joints in my legs and hips ... long story, not very interesting. However ... I bought a PS3 because, well now I''ve got al the time in the world, and it's truly an amazing machine.

I've played all the other driving games, in anticipation for GT 5 Prologue, witch is downloading right now - the preview looked truly awesome.

This all leads me to my question!

I was a huge fan of GT on the PS1, and played it meticulously and very seriously, and I want to be as "nerdy" about GT5p :smileyhappy: Is a steering-wheel (Logitech) required to be any good at GT5, or to finish it? Or to get the Ferrari 2007 for example, or can you get far in the game with just the Sixaxis controller?

The reason I'm asking, is that I can't use a steering-wheel's gas and brake pedals, because I have no use of my legs (the whole hospital and wheelchair thing), but can use my arms and fingers normally.

OR ... is there any way to use a Logitech Steering-wheel without the pedals, perhaps using the "plappy pads" gear-shifters as the gas-pedal?

Thank you in advance for any hints or tips you can give me, this seems like a really friendly forum, unlike the US boards, and I hope to be more active here from now on.

Cheers, Thomas

I use the Sixaxis and have no problem with the game in the controlling respect.. it should be fine :smileywink: though i think you can configure the steering wheel buttons to whatever you like, and yes you can get "flappy paddle" gearboxes on them :smileywink:

Re: Steering-wheel "required"? +Steering-wheel w/o pedals?

hello, sorry to hear about the hospital job. I was really nerdy about Gt3 on the Ps2, I broke my wrist in several places and was in a cast to my shoulder but luckily the cast was moulded just right for me to fit a playstation controller into it. I won every race on the game in a six week period, gold in all licenses but what bugged the hell out of me was that you couldnt get 100% on the game. it was a well known bug. Anyhow im just as much a nerd with this version of the game, and with the six axis and manual gears. I have won every single race. 40 golds on all classes and now im finishing off the manufacturer events, so yeh to sum it up you can complete the game fully using just the six axis. Good luck!!

glad to hear your disability hasn't stunted your good nature!

unfortunately most of the wheels do require pedals, i'm not sure if any of the buttons on the wheel are progressive (like pedals are or the buttons on a SIXAXIS pad)

the SIXAXIS doesn't have rumble at the moment, but the Dual Shock 3 is coming soon, although UK retailers are being tight lipped about the release date. this would be the controller to buy, it really adds some feedback. i think this is the closest people are going to get to feedback without a wheel.

hope that helps,

vitz
