*THE GT3 COMPLEX STRING/RuF RGT TIME TRIAL*

ive talked about this test for ages and been thinking about it longer but now its here!

100_0666.JPG

the ultimate gt3 challenge with one hell of a motor car, this teutonic beast, based on the porsche 911 gt3, is packing 394 bhp and enough torque coupled to low weight to make even the best drivers weep with fear.

and lets not forget this incredible test track.  it features every type of corner, requiring every type of sports driving in your repertoire, blind crests and tight hairpins.  while its 11.2 km long and half as long as the ring, i believe that the challenge of this circuit is just as great.

THE CHALLENGE

to drive one lap of this awesome circuit in the ruf rgt, take a photo and submit your times.  this test can be found in the arcade menu, and then in the 'time attack' sub section.  its the last of ten time trials.  dont worry, you dont have to do any of the other time trials to do this one.

THE RULES

this test is like a license test, so if you put all four wheels off the track, you will automatically fail the test.  the kerbs are part of the track and thus no fail will be issued for using them.  there are cones on some parts of the track however, and if you merely breath on those, you will, again, automatically fail.  once you have completed a lap you will need to:

SUBMITTING YOUR TIMES

here is a photo of the tests' top menu:

kaz is a legend isnt he?  here you can see the records tab slightly highlighted.  you have two options:  if you get into the top three you can submit your time based on this photo, but it must have the whole screen in the photo, ie. where it says 'time attack menu' at the top.  the other option is to take a photo from the records section, shown here:

100_0671.JPG

sorry for the blurred image, but you get the point.  the three times already on screen cannot be deleted, but they must be included in your submit photo.  and while theres no title showing what this leaderboard is for, there are no other 5 minute laps with kaz's name attached to them, so there can be no doubt really of where this lap comes from.

finally, your gamertag must be entered.  it automatically directs to the name entry screen after a new hi-score.  but, joy of joys, its only the once that you need to enter it, it will remember after that.  see photo below

100_0669.JPG

only times that have the gamertag will be allowed.

there is no closing time for this trial, its ongoing.  and times can be submitted from today.

please submit your times in this thread, i will make another before next sunday with leaderboards.  also, please use this thread for discussion and making me aware of anything i have missed!

thanks guys, and enjoy yourselves out there!!!

Looks good, aphexstwin!

One of my favourite tracks, although I don't remember much about this particular test.

I'll give it a try once I get GT3 set up again.

Unfortunately I gave my GT3 disk away to a friend, many years ago. Still it got him hooked, and he got a wheel because of GT4. I will see if he still has it and more if he can find it!

Got my GT3 disk back, first thought it was a licence test so went through doing them..lol. Still they where good practice as sections of the complex string track crop up often. Finally found it in the Arcade time trial section. First run is a 5'01.## but I'll have a proper go later.

Re: *THE GT3 COMPLEX STRING/RuF RGT TIME TRIAL*

I didnt get the time to do any runs in any TT today :smileysad:

So, I'm definately going to make sure I can get some laps in tomorrow, even if it's only a few.

Good start Systemdek :smileyhappy:

Re: *THE GT3 COMPLEX STRING/RuF RGT TIME TRIAL*

good marker. i cannot stress enouh how important it is to save your replays and your game, drivers. save your game either on the top menu or inside your home in gt mode. i made the mistake of doing some licenses and forgetting to save them, relying on gt4's autosave i was. and how much harder is it getting silver on some of these tests???

[ Edited ]

I found when using a wheel on GT4 recently... that it is a lot easier to get silvers and golds. So going back to a pad on GT3 might be one of the reasons why it's hard.

Gonna get some laps done now :smileyvery-happy:

EDIT: WOW... watching this opening video brings the memories back. Feeder FTW!

Re: *THE GT3 COMPLEX STRING/RuF RGT TIME TRIAL*

[ Edited ]

**** that hour and a half disappeared quickly!

First thing I have to say... it's weird racing with a controller again. I'm glad my PS2 controller is still in good nick. Something I want to ask is what would be the best thing to do to clean a controller? cos I don't really want to use any amount of water. Anyway.... laps!

First few runs was used getting used to the controller again. So my first run I went straight off at the first bend... cos missed the braking point by a few million feet. Next run I got a time :smileyhappy: a very steady 5'08.261. Nearly lost it over the blind and off camber humps. The next run... I did come off over those humps. Didn't come off the accelerator before applying brakes... in 4th... so that ended in tears over the first hump. Car became all light and the back end span... as it would. I was 6.6 seconds up at that point so that annoyed.

After that... the runs started to come together, and using the controller became second nature again. That's probably down to the game mechanics... as the physics are of course much simpler than today... even simpler than GT4. I feel it fits in between arcade and simulation very well. I also can't believe how old this game is now! April 2001 it arrived in Japan... so it's 9 years old at the end of April!! I honestly am stunned by how well the game has aged.

So... 3rd run I hit under the 5 minute mark with a 4'57.782. 4th: 4'55.170. Then on my 5th pushing too hard and I lost it again at the humps. I wasn't ahead of my previous time though. 6th run I managed a 4'54.639. I was really pleased with that.

I noticed then, after saving my lap... the Data Logger. So I compared my 4'55 with my 4'54. The data logger is a great tool. Every little sector it gives you a comparison of your two runs. A graph to show your acceleration and braking, and a replay with one of your laps as a ghost car, so you can visually see where you've got it right and where you haven't. I forgot this was on GT3. This is another reason why I'm stunned this game is as old as it is... I can't think of any racer at this time with anything like this!?

So, after studying that for a little while, I noticed I was losing a lot of time on my 4'54 over the humps, and around the really long lefts into rights. Potentially if I hit these sectors right I could gain another 3 seconds. I took the RUF out for this one last run and got a 4'52.717. Really really pleased with that... and I'm also shocked I've constanty got faster with every run I completed. As lots of you know I usually hit my limit early and can do no more. I think I can find another second or two with this... we'll see.

Looking forward to seeing where this time stacks up with the rest of you! Systemdek, you constantly were beating my times at the Tsukuba Superlap a while back... so I'm looking forward to battling with you again!! Good luck all... this is a great TT event, really pushes your talent and skill. Kudos Aphex :smileyvery-happy::smileyvery-happy:

I'll post my validation pictures up tonight.

Re: *THE GT3 COMPLEX STRING/RuF RGT TIME TRIAL*

BIG WHOOPS!! I've just realised on the rules it states I need to save my lap times with my gamertag... and I haven't done that!! :smileyvery-happy: So, to avoid any kind of argument I've gone back out on the track and put in another time... of 4'50.768.  And saved it with EVO-Krymzen.

I did a few runs, cos either I wasn't happy with my lap... or I fell off. But that last lap came together just right. There is still time to be had... probably at the 90 degree bends (hate those) and a bit more at the long lefts to rights. Love this course though... so many memories come flooding back :smileyvery-happy: I must have been only 13-14 when I last took to this track!
