I don't mean in pounds and pence, but what's it worth in lap times. How much faster per lap can be achieved, by using a steering wheel rather then the normal standard PS controller (using either auto or manual gearbox)?

Also is it easier to use manual gear change when using a steering wheel rather than the standard controller?

Can't put numbers to your question, all I can say is wheel is faster more natural, involving, consistent, fun & realistic. There are instances where controller may be quicker but it is not a realistic quickness, usually achieved with aids that are not able to be switched off. If your asking this question because you are thinking of getting a wheel my advise is this.......don't think GET. Since buying my first wheel over 10 years ago I've never looked back, i never play a racing title, i drive it As for auto or manual , I couldn't tell you I always use manual because it's so easy using a wheel. The best wheel you can get is the one you can afford.

For me, it is not a question of whether a wheel gives you faster lap times or not. It's all down to realism, and I would never go back to my DS3 for a driving game.

As for manual gear changes with a steering wheel, well, I would say that is is about the same really, from my experience. Unless you opt to use a stick shift and clutch, which you can with the more expensive controllers. But like anything else, it is just a matter of practice and eventually it becomes a natural, even automatic operation and you don't even think about it.

Without a wheel, I wouldn't be able to even play racing sims, because using a controller did permanent nerve damage to my right thumb. That can happening any of you, too.

When I did use a DS2 (not a DS3), I never did learn to use manual shifting. However, since the controller has added driver aids, I doubt that I would like using one today.

Being a car driver (in the real world), I can relate to how a car will react to certain situations, but clearly I don't drive using a ds3 controller! I was just wondering whether using a steering wheel was maybe quicker, because it was more natural and instinctive than the more alien ds3, and you guys have answered that perfectly.

@MastrGT I thought racing online was completely safe (permanent nerve damage!!!), Might have to do a 'risk assessment' lol.

Yes, I was forced to use a wheel about one year after picking up a controller for the first time. That's all it took. The thumb's radial nerve in its tip constantly throbs and aches from even light touch.

It was either use a different controller or give up i-racing.
I think I made a wise choice.

personally, i cant push the limits with ds3. but at that moment i am not fast with wheel as ds3 since it is habit.

I wish I had a steering wheel, I wanted a Logitech g27 but they are very expensive...

Try to get any wheel guedes, a less expensive wheel till you can grab a ff wheel for example.

Yes but to me theres no point spending cash on the same thing twice. I was always told: if you're going to buy something pricy, make sure you buy the best. I just don't have money for that at the moment I guess I'll have to wait a little more. Maybe when GT6 comes out
