But rewind I feel has no place in a sim racer, and I hope that it doesn't make it into GT5 in any way shape or form, even though it may have already been hinted at that its coming...oh god are u serious....
Yeah, there was an interview done, it was posted up on gtplanet.net, although it doesn't confirm anything, and it was a translation from Japanese to French to English, so the meaning may have been twisted and lost in translation, but if you read it one way, it hints that gameplay rewind may be a driver aid.

Polyphony would be idiots to add it. If they wish to keep the "Real Driving Simulator" tagline, a rewind feature doesn't have a place in the game. The game is about racing, so it needs racing conventions. You don't have to look far to see races where a winner has had a major fault in one of the closing laps and ends up at the back of the field. It's a part of the sport.
Polyphony don't need to copy some of the silly features of Forza. Sure, some may be good, and they could implement their variation on it, but this feature belongs in a more arcade orientated game.
When was Forza given 'the crown' anyway?

thats all well and good, and like i said - if you dont want to use it, you dont have to. you do not stand to be inconvenienced in ANY way by them adding it. you can complete the hundred plus hour long career mode in Forza 3 without ever using it, no problem.
but for those of us that dont want to be forced to re-do possibly entire SERIES' of up to 5 races with each race lasting 40 minutes or so just because someone rammed you off the road and lost you a race, its an incredibly awesome new feature.
if anything, the rewind feature BELONGS in simulators. you can use it to learn a track in 1 lap the way you would have usually learned it in 100 laps. you can just keep doing a single corner until you know what speed to come in, what angle, when to brake, when to accelerate.......and then you can do that for every corner of the track. its great, and the only possible reason people like you dont want it is because forza had it before GT.
Grid had it first technically, Forza3 just gave it to you without penalty (grid was limited to the amount of times you could rewind based on your difficulty level) And its got nothing to do with Forza having it first or not. Rewind doesn't belong in a driving simulator, its not realistic, and takes away the prestige of doing something awesome, as there will always be the question of how many rewinds was that done in. Especially with GT5 said to have youtube uploading of replays, whats the point of an awesome lap if you can just rewind to get each corner just right?
40minute races? Thats an endurance race in forza isnt it? who cares, if I fail on Hour 23 of a 24 hour race, then thats just racing, start again. There is no consequence to your actions if you can just rewind everything. Whats the point in having damage if, when you crash, you rewind 10seconds and start again? It takes away any penalty and any sense of accomplishment as you basically have a 'win' button near your thumb at all times...
Like it said, if GT5 has it, then it will be less of a game in my eyes. I don't like the feature in any racing sim, regardless of platform.

I don't have a problem with rewind being featured in the game. I will most likely never use it, but those who aren't used to the style of gameplay that GT provides will find it easier to get used to.
Yes, I have heard the argument that it teaches people the wrong thing about driving, and it makes GT mode too easy seeing as you can rewind a vital mistake on the final race of the championship or whatever. Who cares? Who are we to tell people how to play?
If you are a genuine car nut and racing fanatic, such as myself, and want the most realistic experience you simply won't use the feature. If you are more inclined to play the likes of Need For Speed or Burnout, then yeah, you'll probably rewind your heart out. Its all really simple, just mind your own style of play and let others do what they want to do.
At the end of the day, for those who race online, using the rewind feature in single player is only going to bite them on the ass if they lack the required skills for a real race.
As long at PD havn't wasted any time on better features, or have decided to not include other features in favour of this, then its all good. But of course that is my opinion, some out there might want rewind more than, say, weather effects. Its just that they would be wrong, and I am right ![]()
EDIT: I wouldn't say that rewind BELONGS in a simulator though, as stated above, I don't merit its uses in track training. Infact, I believe it would be crap for learning a track. Yeah, learn this corner. Then that corner. Then that corner, its about how you link them all that counts, and to race properly I need to it flow, and ***** corner by corner absolutely ruins that.

grid isnt a racing simulator though. forza 3 is the first simulator to have it.
youre saying that rewind isnt realistic, yet you love GT and iirc arent too fussed if it doesnt have damage? pretty sure plowing into a wall and bumper car-ing off isnt realistic either.
on the 'never knowing how many rewinds were done' thing - on the leaderboards it clearly marks every time that has had the replay function used, so its a moot point. again, and this is about the 1000th time ive had to say it - YOU DONT HAVE TO USE IT. having little timmy at home use it because he doesnt like having to restart races over and over because of a mistake in NO WAY affects you or your enjoyment of the game. it makes the game infinitely better for him, but it doesnt make the game worse in any single way for you.
ill use the rewind feature if i get plowed off the road by the AI from behind and am going to lose the race because hey, firstly a real driver wouldnt do that, and secondly, being about 6 gazillion races in the forza 3 career, i want to work my way through it and not have to repeat races since i now have like 6 games that i want to complete that are all big time spenders. it doesnt take any sense of accomplishment away, as i still have to do 100% of the race anyway - no matter how many times you replay a corner, you still have to do the corner. its akin to having a save system in say Uncharted. when you die do you start the entire game over again from scratch? or do you just go back to the last save point, which is generally no more than 30 seconds away? same thing. isnt that taking the accomplishment away if you can just keep trying it til you do it without any repercussions?
if you want to race and lose a 40 minute race because of a ridiculously bad AI decision - which no, isnt an endurance, there are plenty of long races - then be my guest. im more than happy to simply rewind and do it again and go on and win the race. im playing games for fun, and that is much more fun than me wasting another 40 minutes.

Well, I've used it a few times... and it is a little 'toooo' tempting to use, and you kinda feel cheap afterwards
.. I think its a bit like taking cars two classes above the opposition into a race.... I don't like to admit it, but I do do it on occasions... ![]()
You racing purists from both games I guess can make your own minds up about it.... ![]()
