doesnt look like there's an easy fix for this problem, or is there?

Jeez, sorry to hear this gus72 :smileysad:

I didn't realise we got a two year warranty, so, yeah, first port of call is Logitech. Let me know how you get on with them.

I too have had this problem, although I have not documented it anywhere yet. I managed to fix it though, and it is relatively easy to fix. What has happened is that the positioning/calibration device, that sits inside the black plastic housing at the end of one of the force feedback motors has come loose. It is pointless going in to more details here unless, like me, you decide that you can't do without your beloved G27.

As soon as you have decided what to do either post here or send me a PM and we'll take it from there.

cheers

Have you come across a link to info that states what distance gives us a 1:1 (real life) size ratio on our screens?

Well, even thought the link posted above is the FAQ for multiple monitors, the math is still the same.

This quote I posted above:-

Regarding Angle of Screen Curvature and Screen Angle
The vertical field angle of the interior view in Gran Turismo 5 is 52 degrees. On a 16:9 monitor, this equates to a horizontal screen angle of 82 degrees. If the horizontal width of a monitor is 1m, if you view the screen at a distance of 1.15m from the monitor panel, your field of vision will match your field of vision in real life, taking up your full horizontal field of view.

also relates to a single monitor set-up.

I think I may try to contact PD to get clarification on this because it is a little bit confusing, and, in my opinion, misleading.

Re: Wheels

@ gus72. Here are a couple of pictures showing the feedback motors inside your G27. You will notice that there is a black plastic housing on the end of the right hand (as viewed here) motor. This covers the components that allow the wheel position to be registered and calibrated. When this cover is removed you will see a relatively simple system of a disk with slots in it with some kind of emitter and receiver (probably optical) either side of that disk, all held together on a plastic support. This plastic support is screwed to the end of the force feedback motor and these screws on my G27 came loose, thus causing the calibration process to be aborted, in pretty much the same way as you describe. I simply tightened the screws and all was well again.

There's a little bit more to it than that, but I thought I would give you some kind of idea of what you need to do, assuming you decide to fix it yourself.

Re: Wheels

Ah, OK, so PD is working with a 60° field of view (when measured from the front) for a single wide-screen monitor.

1.15 times the altitude of an equalateral triangle** = ~1

** example A

In other words, we should have a screen-width 15% greater than our distance from the screen.

I wonder if this holds for a 4:3 screen, too. I seem to remember perceiving a slight distortion switching between 4:3 and 16:9 screens in earlier GT versions.

Re: Wheels

[ Edited ]

Thanks for the reply andy and offer of helping me with this problem.

Got on the phone to logitech told them about my problem, they started with the "have you done the software update's"
explained i didnt think it was a software issue after seeing all the post's about it on their own website.
ok sir can i take your details, i will look into the problem and contact you via email.
Do i hold my breath, dont know, dont think i can.

So some quick questions
Is their any warranty seals (incase it has to go back)
If it's just loose screw's all well and good, but what if the optical wheel has slipped on the shaft, is it a case of just glueing back on
or is it more complicated than that (set positions or anything need aligning).
ive a devil and an angel on my shoulders at the moment, one saying get the screwdriver, other saying it's under warranty.

thanks

Re: Wheels

Hi gus,

yeah, the Devil won in my case lol.

It certainly isn't a software issue as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't even know how, or even if you can do a software update.

Anyway, There are no warranty seals, but I am sure that they can tell if you've been routing around in there. So if there is any chance of you sending it back to Logitech I would hang on for a bit.

Regarding the wheel/disk with slots in... I actually took mine off the shaft altogether because I decided to give it a clean. It easily pulls off and pushes back on again, no gluing required. And even after all the messing about I did with it, the G27 still passed the self check and calibration. No need to align anything... Just re-assemble and go.

I found the trickiest thing to be taking the end cover off (that you can see in the photographs above). I just couldn't suss it out at first and all I ended up doing was using a small, flat screwdriver to prise it away from its counterpart. To be honest, it isn't easy to explain and I really need to take mine to bits and take some more photographs at the different stages.

By the way, did you have a look at my other post here about my G27 problems? You could also do with having a look at this article I did on another site:-

Inside a Logitech G27

It is worth having a look at this because it goes into detail on how to take your G27 apart. It's a bit unfortunate really that, to get to the force feedback motors you have to virtually take it all to pieces, including the steering wheel itself.

Okay, I'll leave you to think further about what you want to do.

cheers

Re: Wheels

Software updates refer to wheel use with a computer, not consoles.
