can't access online racing rooms

Right this has been going on for over a week now, I can log into the PSN, start up GT5 yet cannot enter an online room or private lounge for a race. All I get is lobby server error OR time out messages. I have had the game for over 6 months without any problems but since Feb 3rd nothing. All updates have been installed for the game and the latest for the PS3 and so far this is what I've checked - router wireless & hardwired, gamedisc is clean, cache emptied, playstation will go online with other games GTA4, Burnout Paradise, COD: Black Ops. I have the new online time trials and thats fine, and something is going on but what??????. Any answers are welcome but I'm not that computer literate so make it understandable

Re: can't access online racing rooms

The most obvious suggestion, at this stage, is to recommend re-install the game updates.

If / when you do this, report back if it was successful at allowing you on-line again, please.

It's unlikely that a BR disc gets scratched, but it has happened. Others have had their "good" discs go "bad", for whatever reason, and new discs have solved that problem.

It's worth a shot at cleaning the disc's surface with dishsoap, which usually has good grease-cutters in it. Use something lint-free to dry it, and you can check the surface under a bright light, too.

If re-installing the game updates didn't work, then there is a slight possibility that using a new GT5 ID may reveal if the game save file itself is corrupted. You can also try downloading the game updates at a mate's home, to see if one of the update files is getting corrupted (this has resolved quite a few problems).

This is all presuming that something odd isn't going on with your network, BTW.

Re: can't access online racing rooms

Most likely is the internet connection. I'd check your Nat Type under Network Settings and make sure its set to 1 or 2. If something else, therein lies the problem.

I've been having the same problems getting into lobbies for weeks now due to my internet not working properly. What I find happening is that the router is either assiging the wrong Nat Type to the PS3, or is failing to assign any at all.

A new account proves that the problem is not related to your progress file, so that leaves whatever is installed on your HDD, your network, or your disc.

At this point, it is still unlikely to be your console, but there are BR drive cleaners, too (if necessary, use the one with the hole drilled into it).

I find other than taking the disk to a shop to be fixed in a machine the best thing to use is wax furniture polish to fix a disk.
