jaguar XJ220. more like XJ195

hey all,

i just found a jaguar XJ220 in the used car bin, so i bought it, cost half a million.

i straight away changed the oil and took it for a top speed run. only got 185mph

so then i went back and rebuilt the engine and the frame which made it go from 510bhp to 537bhp.

but then i only got 195mph and after some running in the bhp didnt change and i changed the oil twice.

so then i got persistant and tuned it up to 699bhp and still only got 211mph.

where did they get 220mph from? has anyone actualy got 220mph out of one yet?

Re: jaguar XJ220. more like XJ195

try a racing gear box and extend the final speed on the gearbox to 240+mph and it should top out about 220mph

but i have to agree on the top speeds of some of these cars, the bugatti veyron should hit 250mph standard with no mods, maybe an oils change and engine rebuild, but i think it only hits about 225ish

They named it that because that was the initial target, not that they ever made it that speed!

Who needs a Jag X220 when you can have a Red Bull X2010. That car goes like SOS and handles well too. :smileyvery-happy:

If you mean the real speed record with XJ220, they made it on slightly downhill road.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_XJ220#Speed_record

As with most speed records it is usually achieved by a slightly modified car, the same applies to things like the veryron supersport top speed can only be achieved on a small number of cars that leave the factory able to do that.

So what you need to remember is that while the XJ220, Bugatti, McClaren F1 etc all claim certain top speeds it usually is without rev limitors as they are in production cars and other mechanical or technical adjustments made.

Yeah it wasn't standard and then it only hit 217mph :smileywink: So GT is most likely correct :smileyhappy:

Re: jaguar XJ220. more like XJ195

yea, they had to boost it by 60BHP and remove the rev limiter to reach 217MPH, so it wasn't a standard XJ220

I got the RACE version in white and it isn't very impressive. I expected the car would be a bit sharper than it is, and that's it fully tuned. Shame, because I want to use it, but some other cars in the catagory just destroy it in a race.

Re: jaguar XJ220. more like XJ195

its a nice car to drive, the handling is responsive and fun. im just disapointed that with about 1 million quid spend on it, it might achive the actual top speed. plus with an extra 150+ bhp you would think it would get closer to 220mph even then. but it doesnt
