i know the physics are pretty weird and the graphics and attention to detail in the car models are no where near gt5, but have you seen the car list?
look at the caterham r500, and the original mini, and all of thee cars have cutom and 3 or 4 pre set liveries, with a wealth of visual upgrades both to interior and exterior that gt5 could benefit from.
the real world tracks below are a brilliant list which has been put together properly rather than dictated by time that the developers clearly didnt have.
i think they should work like mad men, put together a much more solid career mode, with no blocky shaddows or dark cockpits, or standard cars, much less stupid variations of mx5 and skylines
a bonnet view (no silly roof cam where you cant tell where the camera is actually gonna be placed- all you know is that on the whole its gonna be too high up.) more tracks and theres going to be less cars but work hard to get a good selection in.
sorry for my rant, i just wanted to let loose my opinions. tell me what you think of the two games, or what you think should make it into the gt series.

being totally honest, there are only a few cars on that list that grab my interest, the 1970's Ford Escort and Capri, but I would have to buy the DLC to get them
track wise, I like the GT5 tracks, although I would love to see the missing original tracks from previous GT games, the ones that are there plus the real tracks, city locations and course creator tracks are plenty.
the only thing that interests me at all about shift 2 is the custom livery options, but seeing as I already have other games that have custom liveries but don't have the driving fun of GT5, it looks like SHIFT2 won't be on my wish list

Just been playing Forza, do like every single car is premium. If I had the choice of 1000 cars, 200 premium and 800 standard, or 500 premium I'd choose 500 premium.
Also like you can add roll cage and it's visible in cockpit view. A
Changing engines and aspiration is cool.
And the engines/supercharger/turbo sound better I don't think GT5 has supercharger whine or turbo whoosh?

I've bought and played NFS Shift 2.
I simply don't get this premium car argument.
It may make a difference if you play these games purely in cockpit view and nothing else, but if you play these games in any other view, premium or not, GT surely tops the class.
NFS simply doesn't stack up to GT when it comes to graphics.
Personal preference with one particular view may make an exception, but a fairly closed minded one.
But even then, it's only the number of vehicles that differs, not the quality of graphics.
GT is far superior in its graphics and car control systems.
Its track recreation is second to none.
So it's graphics ... car control physics ... track recreation ... all top of the class with GT, ...... vs number of vehicles with cockpit view or number of tracks.
One clear winner .... and that is GT.

Have to agree 100% with Tassie_tiger. I also bought Shift 2 based on the YouTube and other ads that made it appear fantastic, but the handling compared to GT5 is just awful - and I mean awful - and to me that's the hardest thing to give up once you're used to something decent like GT5. I played it for about 2 days, trying to give it a chance, but driving at high speed in Shift 2 feels like driving a powerboat in choppy water... the car just jiggles all over the place, twitchy and jumpy, and nothing moves smoothly the way it does on GT5. And on top of that, the input lag is terrible. I've played NFS all my life and actully found the handling in Shift 2 worse that prior NFS releases (like Carbon). I went back to GT5 and have not played Shift 2 since. When I am fully finished GT5 (level 40 A and B, all gold licenses, own all cars, etc.) I may go back to Shift 2 but it will be a painful transition.
On the plus side for Shift 2 and in my opinion, the biggest thing Shift 2 has over GT5, is the visual car customization possiblities they offer. That is far superior to GT5 and you can truly make the car yours. GT5 has a huge untapped opportunity here with there being so little you can alter visually on the cars.
For that reason, I agree with the OP - that PD should take a look at Shift 2 - or Carbon where you can endlessly modify the appearance of your car. With the graphics and photo mode in GT5 it would be so nice to be able to create and photograph cars you've truly personalized.

its true that the handling and graphics are no match for gt5, yes.
however the "i dont get the standard car thingymebob" isnt well thought through as besides the cockpit, if youre playing on a big tv, the edges are pixellated and awful. look at the lupo gti cup car's back window and you will see what i mean.
on 24-04-2011 05:18 PM
Jeeze, dont show PD that, I want to at least see another GT in
my lifetime, lol

I agree.
And the reason why is because it isn't my arguement.
It is by far the most common comment put up by GT critics and Forza fans.
That is why I mentioned it earlier.
And if NFS Shift 2's graphics "are no match for gt5", then I'm not sure where your going by pointing out one particular model from over 1000, in one particular area, when using a particular TV screen.
Seems a bit grasping at straws to me.
I like NFS for what it is, and I love the endless options available to make the cars look how you would like, but unfortunately, that's where it ends if your going to compare it to a game like GT5.

disagree. grasping at straws with my own argument? do you think that i'm a die hard forza fan or something?? i love gt5, however UNLIKE what you said there are 800 standard cars, and i assure you, theres more than one which looks awful. i used the lupo as an example.
