Is there any point wasting money on a PEGI or BBFC rating when young people just play on these games regardless. The rating stamp just seems to be there, only for decoration nowadays.

I think there is. Some parents may let their children play games with any rating, but there will be a significant amount who actually know how to be a parent and will refuse to let them play certain ratings until they believe their child is mature enough.

Having said that, my mum teaches in an infants' school and she regularly gets 5 year olds telling her about what they did on CoD or GTA.

there definately is a point in it.... it gives parents the choice of purchase. without those ratings the kid could play the game when maybe the parent would not want them to.

personally if i had kids i would let them play cod, but not gta..... gta is very much about being a bad man, and breaking laws. Cod is more a good guy thing (though i would monitor them whilst playing it to insure that they are behaving respectfully towards people when they play online... not like most of the annoying little kids you here online these days,)

I have no problem with underage kids playing 18 certficate games... just so long as the parent is monitoring them (at least to start with) and stepping in if the child is behaving incorrectly.

At any age? I think it's about assessing what caused the game to get it's rating and weather a particular child is mature enough to play such a game or watch such a film.

i agree, and in my experience with cod, i would let a chil of 12 years and up play it, like i said though monitored to some degree, to ensure respectful play, and to ensure they understand its a game. When you here about people who suppossedly flipped out and went crazy because of some game it is normally a lack of parental supervision and understanding that causes it... not the game/film itself.
