Anyone having problems getting headset to work in home?

Hey,

 

I'm not sure if a headset is meant to enable you to just walk up to someone and start chatting....  but I couldn't even get it to work in my apartment while using the calling function, and that was while the guy I was calling was also in my apartment. 

 

Anyone else having issues with this?

I remember someone saying you have to press either L2 or R2 to open coms.
