This game is still regarded by myself as one of the best games I've played on my PS3. Just below the excellent MGS4.
The game is great...
- visually stunning
- great storyline
- great combat system, which is perfectly balanced with the button sequences
- The end battle is fantastic, and one of my favourite moments in a game of all time.
The only issue I had with it was the game was short and could have been made longer easily, but we need a sequal.
Have to agree with the OP - bought the game not reading any reviews; was a bit short on PS3 games at the time (only had R:FoM! 
) and thought this game looked worth taking the plunge. Wasn't disappointed at all! Loved the game throughout, especially the arrow firing/slo-mo bow gun thingy, found that stress relieving!!
EDIT: LBP is getting Heavenly Sword DLC this Thursday, so maybe Ninja Theory hasn't quite given up on the game just yet - so fingers crossed for a Trophy patch or perhaps a sequel?
