I love the atmosphere / 'feel' of the game but I thought the acting was pretty lacklustre, and quite robotic in places.  Especially the woman Shelby interviews.

Jayden was even worse - the actor sounds like he's half asleep and mumbles so bad I couldn't understand some of the things he said.  I know he's meant to be grief stricken but that's not the impression I got from the performance - sounds more like he's been lobotomized.

I understand that the actors will have recorded hundreds of hours worth of dialogue, so it's not all going to be fresh and Oscar-quality, but I was expecting better than this.  Uncharted 1 / 2 wipes the floor with this demo as far as credible, emotional voice acting goes. 

Hopefully this is not indicative of the quality of the rest of the voice acting in the game.  I was expecting something sensational from what is essentially an interactive movie.

Well Uncharted 1&2 were both scripted, this isn't at least not in the conventional sense. Any game where you decide how the script will go will suffer from sounding 'wooden'.

Just wondering, why is Jayden 'grief stricken'?  Its the architect guy who lost a kid?

Jayden isnt meant to be grief stricken. he is a drug addict though which may explain it. =)

Jayden was the worst voice acting for me too, especially how he introduces himself as Narmen Jayden, instead of Norman Jayden. Hate that accent.

I think the quality overall isnt bad, its not enough to ruin the game for me, however you can tell that the motion capture and the voice acting were done seperately. The beauty of Uncharted was they did it together, the voice actors donned the motion capture suits and acted the scenes out instead of just reading the scripts and the results were amazing, you could really tell the difference.

I think Norman Jayden's acent is perfectly fine, don't really know why people are complaining about him so much, not everyone sounds the same, he sounds like he's from new york but may have spent time in other regions picking up certain accents along the way.

I think the worst voice I've heard so far is one of the cops saying something like "right away sir" it sounded like maybe it was a last minute take...

and like it's been said, nothing will compare to Uncharted 2's vocal talent they were great in the first installment and could only get better in the 2nd (which they did) I'm not put off by any vocals in this as of yet, yes some secondary characters may not be that great, but I think the leads all sound fine.

sure if they could have gotten some big names in I wouldn't be complaining

I hated the NArman Jayden guy, he's obviosly not American in real life. And the hooker was terrible too, she sounded like she was reading the script in a hurry!

After Uncharted 2 and Mass Effect 2 (female main character), there was definitely some disappointing voice acting (Jayden and to a slightly lesser extent the woman) and character animation in the Heavy Rain demo - areas where I was expecting a game like this to be aiming for excellence or at the very least solid performances.
The video I've seen with the family in the shopping mall wasn't any more convincing.

The look and feel, including the control scheme, of the demo still convinced me to buy the game when it's out though - until now I really had been entirely undecided.

Voice acting doesn't bother me in the slightest, though i do really get into games when i play them and tend to get so engrossed in the story that i couldn't care less what they sound like.

Resident Evil 1 is still one of the best games ever in my book, and we all know how unbelievably crap the voice acting was on that!
