Re: Fat PS3......discrimination?

I'm also playing a fat NTSC 60 gig backwards compatible style PS3 and having the same problems...the real question is anyone having problems who *isn't* using a fat PS3?

Re: Fat PS3......discrimination?

Guys, I even installed it and ran it while the PS3 was on it's side, lol. You know, just in case it had something crazy to do with the laser. Man, I'm at my wits end...

Re: Fat PS3......discrimination?

i also have the fat one, and everything seems to work fine. Although, it did froze twice the entire gameplay.

Re: Fat PS3......discrimination?

I've got the old 60Gb PS3 upgraded to a 500Gb hard drive and I've had almost no problems. There was one scene with a bit of screen tearing but other than that it's been fine. Whatever's wrong with yours I hope they can fix it and that it's not a problem with your machine. I'd cry if mine stopped working.

Re: Fat PS3......discrimination?

"Shelby-esque" PS3, formerly 40GB, upgraded to Samsung 500GB 5400 RPM drive. Works perfectly fine. No crashes, no real stutters (aside from rapid pausing and unpausing). For those that upgraded their PS3s, how fast are your drives?

Re: Fat PS3......discrimination?

It sounds like its american consoles with a PAL game that seem to be having a problem.

I have a UK 60gb console but havent got the game, fingers crossed its arrived today, so i let you know it i have any problems once i get the game.

Re: Fat PS3......discrimination?

you know? you should look into the issue of backward compatability. Find out if the guys who have the same problem as you do have backward compatible ps3's and see if its a common case there. That might be the problem and not the fat Ps3

Re: Fat PS3......discrimination?

Its 5400rpm.

Honestly I'm about 2 seconds from just popping the old 60 GB drive back in to test it out. But those screws.....those evil evil screws.....

Re: Fat PS3......discrimination?

the firmware is stored on flash chip in the 20,40,60 and usa 80 gig . once the 40s were gone and the 80 came into play , the firmware was stored on the hardrive and thus carries all the way up to the slim . with 20,40,60 you could just bash in new hardrive and the machine would format as the firmware was present and the insturctions of how to do are on the chip . the later models need the firmware on a usb stick as once the old hardrive is out there is no firmware to carry out the reformat.

this was done so firmware sizes didnt have limit as they have been growing over time . but there is good chance that now ALL ps3s have thier firmware on the hardrive , but im not sure . my copy (review) should be at home today so i shall also try and see it what happends
