Re: Heavy Rain - Way too much tearing

I'm playing it on a 40"1080p Sony Bravia and also noticed the tearing is quite bad. The game is still good, it just annoys me that the first games like Heavenly Sword (which is still a classic to this day) got marked down because of the screen tearing. There is no consitency in reviews these days...

Re: Heavy Rain - Way too much tearing

I play on a 32-inch Bravia, and I noticed some minor tearing, but nothing that would spoil the game. It was barely noticeable.

These demos always come with a disclaimer that they're 'not representative of the finished product', or words to that effect. So lets wait and see what the final game looks like before laying into it, eh?

Besides, there are a few reviews of the final game available now, and I doubt they'd be that high if tearing was significant. I know the OPM UK review doesn't make eny mention of tearing, and they usually do if it's present.

Either way, the demo has me hyped for the game. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and for me, even if the game has the same amount of minimal tearing, it'll still be totally enjoyable.

I think many magazines cannot afford to say "nice graphics pity about the tearing" because they get revenue from advertisers...

Alot of games that dont have tearing on PS3 Nostromo?

How many of them are even in the same ballpark graphically as heavy rain? 3 lol?

Vsync takes hits on fps, when the graphics are as advanced as Heavy Rain its not so easy to pull of the ugly games vysnc option... Jesus...

Re: Heavy Rain - Way too much tearing

[ Edited ]

I never said there wasnt tearing, just that I dont see it unless i really try to look for it on my tv but on my mates tv i do see it without looking for it, as it happens I have a Samsung and he has a Sony Bravia...

And as all the people here all say they have sony bravias maybe it is the tv...

It could easily be the HDMI cable

It could easily be the colour and brightness settings on the tv

It could be the mode the tv is running in

It could be that the sony bravias are not diabling the clever stuff they do to make tv better when you play games like most tvs do in game mode.

It could be the PS3 struggling or overheating..

It could be the distance you sit from the TV

It could be the lighting in the room

It could even be the screen finish on the tv (Mat and gloss make diferences)

Fact is on my Mates Sony Bravia TV the screen tearing would annoy me while playing the game, however on my Samsung TV I can hardly see it unless I look for it and it wouldnt bother me during game play.  (both my friend and I have 40 " tvs)

Edit :

Oh just noticed someone else hasnt got a problem and they also have a samsung..

Oh Im sure there is.... I didnt notice any tho so meh.

People expect console games to look like high end PC games these days, barely 8 years ago you remember what the standard was for graphics on PS2?

Lets be realistic.... It has screen-tearing.. No need to have a heart attack. It still looks graphically superior to 90% of PS3 games out there?

Jeez....

Only person in here having a heart attack is you! This is a forum open to discussion. This is a discussion about Heavy Rains screen tearing. Its not a rant trying to put the game down like your making us out to be becuase no one has said that have they?? Nooo all we have said is that we ''have noticed screen tearing'' and some find it worse then others while others dont even notice. Or their too blind to admit that its there. oops did i just go there :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Heavy Rain - Way too much tearing

I noticed a bit of tearing not as much as uncharted brought to the table and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

It isn't exactly distracting and it isn't going to put me off buying the game.

The tension, the gfx and the gameplay for me is immense. It is a welcome breather from the norm of FPS and sports games. I can not wait for the release of this little beauty.

Re: Heavy Rain - Way too much tearing

Guys with screen tearing; try setting your display in the PS3 menu to 720.

Just a guess.
