Heavy Rain

I signed up to share my experience with this problem.

Just this weekend I bought a brand spanking new unopened PS3 Slim 120Gb from Best Buy this weekend along with Heavy Rain.  I saw a video review on Gamespot and it looked so awesome I decided to finally purchase a PS3.

I ran Heavy Rain and it was working great until the scene at the Mall when his kid gets lost.  As soon as I made it down the escalator the game froze.  "Ah shucks", I stammered.  Thinking hopefully this was a one time issue.  Luckily my game was saved up to that point.  It froze right at the loading scene where it's zoomed up on his face." Holy JC!."  I restarted again.  This time when I was following Jason, the kid just stopped walking before he got a balloon.  He just stopped cold in his tracks and didn't move.  "Golly Gee!"

I then proceded to look up technical issued related to this game and found a lot of people with similar problems.  Also a lot of idiot posters who say, "Whats the big deal; my game works flawless; your PS3 is old; its just a tiny little technical issue; the patch is coming any second" Shut the hell up fanboys.

I then tried all the different fixed like deleting the game data and game saves, playing patchless, soft reformat of PS3, etc, etc..

Nothing worked and the game just got worse.  The game once froze at the friggin start up menu, WTH?

Another time I lost my sound completely.  And just continued to crash and freeze and I had hard reset my PS3 everytime. 

I wasted nearly two days trying to fix and play this game.  Oh well.  I went to Best Buy in an attempt to exchange my PS3 and copy of Heavy Rain.  They agreed to but unfortunately they were out of PS3's.  They  asked if I wanted a complete refund of my PS3 and even for Heavy Rain.  I agreed to get my money back.

The thing is I really want a PS3 and will probably purchase another one in the near future.  One of the sole reason I bought it was because of Heavy Rain.  The game had the exact gameplay I was looking for that made it stand out from other cookie cutter games.  It's like a cross between Hotel Dusk & Shenmue.  I will continue to peruse the boards to see if a fix has finally been implemented.  Get your lazy butts moving developers and fix the crashing, freezing, losing sound, & AI issues.

PS3 is not the problem you had no need to get a refund on it. its the game

Alright, it's time to actually do something about this.

I've set up a website. It's HeavyRainIsFalling.com - the site provides a form where you can input your details, the details of your system and the nature of the problem you are experiencing. This information will be collated to demonstrate the enormity of the problem, and will also be forwarded to Quantic Dream.

I urge everyone experiencing problems to visit the site and fill in the form. We'll instantly be armed with some quantifiable and consistent data, and we'll also be flooding Quantic Dream's inbox with specific information on the problems we're all experiencing.

SPREAD THE WORD. Also, if you're that way inclined, join the Facebook group and help promote the site. The more people with problems who log their issues there the quicker we might get this solved.

Well I'm in the same group as you people.
On my launch 60GB PS3 I get to Karmer's Party level and make it up to the double doors (where Karmers son is) and suddenly it freezes.
I tried about 5 times and it just crashed in the same place. Thinking that it was just me, I went down to GameStop and told them the situation and they agreed to swap the discs, went home loaded the game up and it was the same thing again. So I searched online and thank goodness I found it it wasn't just me that was suffering.

Come on Quantic Dream's sort it out please I just wanta play (up to the freezing point) this otherwise excellent game.

Freezes every time I load different epilogues and most chapters. I hope quantic is on this. My game is basically worthless right now

yup my game is dead to....I had little freezing before so I restart and continue then I lost my sound once and now it just won't even let me play it just freezes on a black screen.

Good thing developers take 5 years and dont even make sure the game works properly. I already had to restart once because my file erased itself, now it wont load. What a load of garbage.

Maybe the game is still on beta? I hope they fix all of this crappy bugs because I really like the game and now I can't even play it. I am stuck at the Aquarium chapter. I see Jayden's face on the loading screen and then black screen and then nothing happens. Wow... I think I'll have to go back to another game :,( I can't play this game when the sound skips, the textures taking forever to load, the video skips. Yes, I got it all. I got a fat 80gb the last generation before the slim. Quantic Dreams please do something!

I don't really know how they can fix this issue. The reason being: it is so random where the freezes occur. My 1st playthough the game froze once on me (somewhere in the middle of the game) , I had to shut off my PS3, start over from whereever it autosaved and it never happened again.

I just started a 2nd playthrough and the game froze during Jayden's 1st appearance at the crime scene (while I was pressing r1 to scan the area for clues).

So, it's happening at very random times/ random places for everybody on here, and number of times it happens can vary to once, twice or unfortunately for some people it has become stuck in an unplayable state.

I can hear my PS3 chugging (and it is a new 120 GB model) when it is running this game. That is a serious sign that the PS3 is having a tough time running this software and is seriously pushing it's hardware (which I can see why some people were posting on other boards that they swear this game "broke their PS3".
It is not good for any motherboard-based hardware when things freeze like that. It can potentially damage your hardware (overheat, corrupt your HDD, graphics card, etc.)

I don't understand either why this game freezes, even with the initial mandatory install to the PS3. It must not be copying the entire game to the Hard Drive because freezing is typically caused my slow reading off the disc, scratches, etc. If entire game IS installed to the HDD and we are getting freezing, that is just buggy software and I do not think they can fix that because of all the random points where this game crashes. It is just something we will have to deal with but Ido not want to continue to play a game that is crashing my PS3. I know that is not good for my system and it sux because like this game a lot.

Sorry for rambling but I am frustrated, also.
