It's an interesting question, and pretty hard to determine the answer until you go through that situation.
It reminds me how you hear of people doing remarkable things under adreniline and stress. I know of a guy, who when I was a child moved one of those concrete fence post driver blocks off his wife after she was trapped under it during a farm accident. Anyone who has ever been near one of those things knows that that should just not be within the realms of normal human ability.

This is true. There is documented accounts of mothers being able to lift cars of their children.
You never know what you are capable of until you have to be.

well, i would do anything in my power to save him/her. especially the momenti know that their fate was in my hands, and they were persons i would love, i think that i rather die from seeing them die withtout me helping them. so i could have easily trade my life for theirs.
-everything i would do, i would do it for love.

lmao @ James.
well, you said you'd rather die than see your loved one die. but how do you think your loved one would feel knowing that you sacrificed yourself for them? don't you think it'd cause them more emotional pain? then again, it'd be worse knowning that you coulda done something to save them

There are too many variables missing from that situation. where are we, how far away from the gunman are we, the gunmans mental state, I could go on and on. Personally speaking I would shoot to kill as soon as I got the chance.
