Why is everyone saying this game(which its not)
Clearly you need to read the post below yours, and research games like King's Quest, Monkey Island and Leisure Suit Larry.... all of which by your definition aren't games..
I still remember writing on the Alan Wake forums (a game I'm really looking forward to I might add) and someone took a cheap shot at Heavy Rain not being a game (in an inevitable HR vs AW thread).... when I pointed out that 25 years ago we used to play games that consisted entirely of reading text on screen and then typing text commands, some of the younger gamers thought I was either joking or lying...
Did you ever play Room 13 or The Hobbit? They've also revamped the original Monkey Island game for the PC (and you can press F10 to change it to original graphics) and also chapter based MI episodes too....kids these days! they don't know they're born! Could you imagine back then seeing a game like Heavy Rain? and back then I was impressed when we got colour down the sides of a loading screen - which I had to use a screwdriver on the tape recorder to make sure the pitch didn't drop.....
I guess that Shenmue wouldn't qualify as a game to Gniuz either...
Anyway, back to topic...
If it was a DVD like Gnuiz claims, we wouldn't be able to manipulate the characters or influence the story at all...now if I could buy a DVD movie that would allow me to move the actors then I'd be willing to pay more than £40 for it! And I should imagine alot of blokes would pay an awful lot more than £40 to take control of Angeline Jolie in a movie...the striptease scene in Heavy Rain would be like the sound of music in comparison pmsl and if anyone could point me to a DVD that gives you the chance to play the same story five times with a completely different movie each time (plus 17 epilogues) I'd be more than happy to cough up £40...I'm not a button basher fan, but I don't go into threads for Bayonetta giving it a totally unjust (and unqualified) slating...I didn't buy bayonetta because I read up about it and played the demo first..Gnuiz, if you didn't have the sense (and judging by your post, I'm guessing you don't) to try it before you buy it, you really do only have yourself to blame.
I knew what I was getting in Heavy Rain, I thought it would be a great game and it only exceeded my expectation...by a country mile! I'm sure I'm not the only one to think so, either.

Well done on the platinums guys! I hope to be a member of that club this weekend. Ive driven ppl mad over the last year....especially when the 4DC began, talking about heavy rain, making them play fahrenheit "to get the idea" , forcing them to watch videos etc.....
Then the day came to pick up my SE on the way to work and I even themed my English lessons around HR to get me thru the day lol. Got home and more or less went into lockdown for 3 days.
Even tho the killer was spoiled (a "freind" inboxed me no less!) I still enjoyed the journey and my Jayden only ending was a surprise for me. As Cage pointed out..."your first playthrough is the definitive" and never a truer word....I now have a version in my head that is "the real" version so to speak.
When it was all over I actually considered selling it (please dont hurt me I have been offered 60 euro 4 it right now!!) but I can't do it...even when I go platinum I know I won't. As you pointed out Dom, even for the inflated price I paid here its an absolute bargain, I've had 20 hours+ out of it already and how many blurays can u say that 4? Everybody who has played it (including female friends who havnt touched a console since childhood) have been hooked.I love watching other ppl play it and react, its like a fresh experience for me everytime and I can't say that about any other game.....almost ironic in the fact that its so often touted as "linear cutscenes" and even if this was the case what the hell does that make a 2 hour bluray movie at a 25 euro markup?
Yes there were plot holes but apart from maybe the "age" hole I still say they can be ironed out with clever DLC and maybe some webisodes or online comics. It would actually make the whole thing even better...give it some real lasting "aha" factor .......looking forward to sum fan stuff.
I feel proud to be a part of this experience and to have shared the buildup here in the forums, The 4DC and to now be able to share it and show ppl that games are no longer a cliche of unintelligent entertainment championed by disillusioned deadbeats but a legitimate past time.
.....And check out that sound on a 5.1 ...truly an orgasm of the ear......and is it just me or is any1 else hearing the music as they are going about their daily business. Jaydens dramatic music keeps popping in my head everytime I start rushing around

Great post Tezza!
I hadn't noticed alot of the variations in the scenes and characters until I played them as good and bad (play the killer as a good-ish guy and the difference in how you see him is quite surprising, play him as cold hearted and you get something else altogether) Same with Madison if you reject her and play to her journo side, she's different again and the scenes play differently, take on a new meaning...
The psychological aspect of the game is amazing and the characters are far more complex than they appear on the surface, even their motives change and alter later scenes or maybe just the way you view those scenes, alot of things I'd never considered when I got sucked into the trophy hunting but now I have the trophies I'm replaying scenes differently again, and still being shocked at some of the things I missed/hadn't seen or simply hadn't picked up on maybe because of panic, but when you know the scenes well, you notice a whole new side to things.

I would suggest that if people restrict themselves to just the "IGN road to the platinum", then they are possibly still not seeing many different ways the scenes (including the Warehouse) can play out...
I'll give an example of my scenario before, which as best I can tell the IGN "quick 7" wouldn't show you: (spoilers)
After trying to get the Clever Dad trophy a couple of times I decided that possibly it wouldn't unlock until the Warehouse level loads... along the way I decided I'd let Jayden quit, to see if I could get the Resignation ending, and have Madison succeed to see if I could get the Heroine ending.
In my head I figured that without Jayden there it would be Madison vs Shelby, a scenario I never actually completed on earlier runs of this level on harder difficulties because all 3 times I tried, he killed Madison... OR I figured I'd get the Madison vs cops scenario and outcome
So Ethan does the CPR thing, but this time Madison steps in, and Shelby confronts BOTH of them, before Shelby shoots Ethan and chases down Madison as per the Shelby vs Madison scenario. Up on the crane, Ethan shoots Shelby dead.
So I got the Resignation ending, still didn't get Heroine... I guess I still need to follow IGN step 7 for that, but if the Clever Dad trophy had unlocked back at the Rat level I probably wouldn't have discovered this.

yeah, one of my friends was curious about the madison angle having seen me play a few variations on the scenes as she can come across as a calculating bitch or a genuine girl depending on a few key choices (her reaction when she gets the knockback and leaves the flat was shockingly flipant, even more so when you consider the bike option thats presented even if shes "going to get something to eat" after accepting the fumble.
I also noticed a few rather menacing looks from Shelby when conversations didn't go his way, if only for a few seconds that seemed to contradict his supposed "understanding" demeanour that I never noticed the first time around. a slight dropping of the facade..Not to mention a few snide remarks as noted on the Gamespot blog "Shes not guna find the killer here"
And of course Ethan can come across a lot of different ways, a little more obviously done and intentional
I think the only person who doesnt seem to have an angle is Jayden (of course he has his vice though) and he was my least favourite character most of the way through even though I got the nerd ending and now see him as the hero in my story....and therin lies the magic of Heavy rain, The killers I.D may have been spoiled for me but I never expected it.....or even wanted it directly to end like that when I started out.
Dad wasnt the hero, there was no great love story (didnt think it was right for him to be knockin boots at at a time like that even though I believed her intentions were good) and the guy I wanted to be the hero ended up being the killer!! How many times has that happened in film?.......and 6months after the films release when the word is out????? ppl will pick this up in a year, 2/3 years time and know that theyre guna get a fresh experience no matter what theyve heard
@kiwiatlarge I have to admit to taking a look at the ign site last night and going for a few trophies but if anything, Ive been trying to play it out from key scenes up until the end to see how it all pans out as I,m guessing that with the new trophies will come the alternate storylines and so on.
lol I can't believe it but I've just read a spoiler on another thread!! I dint tink there was anything left to spoil but it turns out that there are STILL things I didnt know could occur.........
