Analog sticks...drifting?

[ Edited ]

Hey all,

Just fiddling about with gamepad data. I've hooked my camera's position up to the left analog stick, and weirdly, it seems to move the camera even when I don't touch the stick. Printing out the values for gamePadData.AnalogLeftX and gamePadData.AnalogLeftY reveals that they are not zero when the stick isn't being moved. Is that normal? Do I have to dampen the values returned so my camera will only move when there's a proper push on the sticks?

Thanks for any help.

edit - for clarify, this is on a Vita.

yes, most analog sticks require specifying a small "DeadZone" around the center of the stick where the stick has no effect until it moves outside of this deadzone.

Ah, thank you for the answer! I would give you kudos but it doesn't seem to be letting me.

Re: Analog sticks...drifting?

I'm having similar issues with my right analog stick.  My left one is fine.  But what values are you normally using for the "DeadZone"?  Also, are analog stick values for X and Y directions range between 0 to 1?
