How to test Touch feature on PC?

The RpgDemo have 2 finger gesture which I was not able to test on PC+PssStudio.

On iOS, there's a way to test 2 finger gestures on the mac, and how do I test 2 finger gestures on PC?

Similarly, the vita has back touch, is there a way to test the back touch on PC as well?

Re: How to test Touch feature on PC?

Hi @nanasi3_uk,

Unfortunately we currently do not have any support for multi-touch gestures in the PlayStation Suite Simulator, and this is also true for the PS Vita back-touch.

We are considering this functionality, however we have no specific plans for the development of it. We are really interested in hearing everyone's thoughts and opinions on this, so if you would really like multi-touch gesture support in the Simulator, please give some Kudos to @nanasi3_uk's post, and it will take greater priority.

Thanks,

Re: How to test Touch feature on PC?

Hi James,
I think this is crucial if Sony plan to follow the same development modeal as iOS. Namely making the dev-tools freely available, but charging membership fee for submiting your application. This allows developers to be come familair with the toolset and to prototype and to nearly get a full product/game ready before investing in actuall hardware and the final fee for submitting to the PS Store. To being able to test things like multi-touch and as many features as possible before laying out the dosh, would be very helpfull. Hence also my suggestion of allowing devs to test controller input by using a PS3 controller. Much cheaper investment than buying a whole new device to find out how your game might work.

Re: How to test Touch feature on PC?

I also support the "free API, paid platform" approach. Lots of people use XNA for non-Xbox/WinPhone project, and they've done a lot of neat things.

Hardware price I don't think will be as big a deal as it is with XNA development. I watched eBay for weeks to score a working used LG Quantum under $100. Buying a new one would have been $300+ and I wouldn't have been able to use it as my primary phone. $299 for a Vita is justifiable to me because I could get some use out of the device other than development testing. The WinPhone just sits in my laptop bag and gets pulled out occasionally to make sure my maps don't take minutes to load.

If we could get DualShock 3 support in PSS, you could fake multi-touch with the analogs. Screen position is stick position, touch is L3/R3. It still doesn't help for testing multitouch and rear touch at the same time, but it's something at least.

Hrm, this would be an interesting idea. We could also use the DualShock 3's accelerometers too. I know when I develop games through XNA on my PC, being able to use the 360's controller has been very helpful.

Re: How to test Touch feature on PC?

Personally I always prefer to test on a real device. I very rarely use the emulators supplied for WP7/iOS/Android dev. Infact I only really use them to test my games running in an older version of the firmware/os to make sure they run (as my personal devices are usually running the latest version OS).

I also think you can't truly tweak your game's input without a real device, you might develop something that looks and plays well in the emulator and then figire out it just doesn't work well when you're having to use your fingers on a real device.
