Steel Rain DLC Map Pack

[ Edited ]

Hot on the heels of our Retro Map Pack comes Steel Rain, a DLC map pack for Killzone 3 featuring two brand-new multiplayer maps inspired by locations from the single player campaign. Today we’re giving you a glimpse of both levels, including video footage of MP-09 Junkyard, which pitches exoskeletons against jetpacks.

Next week we’ll have a video for the other map included with the Steel Rain pack, MP-10 Stahl Arms. It’s a uniquely styled Warzone map featuring intense minigun-versus-sniper-rifle action in the sprawling Stahl Arms facility. Both maps are packed with strategic routes and locations, offering lots of different tactical approaches for players to discover.

The details for each map are as follows:

MP-09 JUNKYARD
Game Type:
 Guerrilla Warfare (16 players)
Description:
The junkyards of Helghan are a wasteland to some, but a valuable resource to others. In the main junk processing facility of Helghan, ISA and Helghast Forces are clashing in an attempt to salvage vehicles and supplies for their war effort. Jetpacks are the key to taking the high ground, but the huge Exoskeletons can quickly turn the tide of the battle on the ground.

MP-10 STAHL ARMS
Game Type:
 Warzone (24 Players)
Description:
As the Helghast write a new and appalling chapter on humanoid experimentation, beleaguered ISA Forces mount a desperate attack on the notorious Stahl Arms research facility, where they hope to free ISA soldiers who have been taken captive. Stahl’s Helghast forces will stop at nothing to ensure that the ISA attack fails, even if it means exterminating the very prisoners they need for their weapons research.

Re: Steel Rain DLC Map Pack

Jetpacks, exos, lots of rain - they look like good maps - the second one in particular (image above) has a completely different style which is great.

Is it, however, not a little soon to be releasing DLC for the game? Could these maps not simply have been released with the game?

Re: Steel Rain DLC Map Pack

The DLC for Killzone 2 was an Epic Fail. What will stop the same happening again?

No one bought the DLC for Killzone 2 and it was almost impossible to get a game on them. I have only played Vecta Cruiser once, it was that bad.

I suppose that's why they're releasing it immediately after release, in order to grab people while they're still playing.

Unfortunately, with this and the Retro DLC already out, it rather seems as though they're deliberately holding back content that could've been included on the disc in order to squeeze players for a little more money.

I'm not sure when the release for this DLC is.

But the point of DLC really is to prolong the life of the game and to lower the number of folk trading the game in tbh.  It was the same with Bulletstorm this week, they announced DLC just as the game came out in the US.  it's the way the industry is moving.

A lot of people are quick to attack K3's move to matchmaking, but one of the ways it works out better is for DLC .

If you have DLC for CoD for example, you WILL see the maps pop up while you're in public games (as long as you're not in the same party as someone without the pack).

Just set your preferred maps to one of the new ones and you are bound to see one.

The only problem I have with CoD mathmaking is that those of us who have terrible ping can wait up to 30 min for a game and then be put into a lobby that is about to close :Argh:

Hopefully it is different with KZ3. I will miss those epically long games on Blood Gracht though :smileysad:

That may be so, but I can't help but feel that releasing the maps with the game in the first place would do the same - in both cases players get more maps to play on, yet by making it premium content, they're limiting the number who do benefit from the wider options.
