Contraption Challenge 10 - Amphibious Vehicle

Welcome to the first LittleBigPlanet Contraption Challenge of 2010! This one is very special, because not only is this the first challenge involving water, but it's also your chance to win a PSP Go!

As the title suggests, for this challenge you need to make a vehicle that can travel across both land and water. However, we don't just want to see a floating car with a rocket on the back - these challenges are about creativity and originality, so we want to see vehicles using innovative methods of movement or which change and work differently when they hit the water. Think outside the box!

To take part, all you need to do is make your contraption, put it in a short level to show it off and publish it using the prefix 'CC10' in the level title so that everyone can easily find it. You've got until Sunday 28th February to get your level published, which is when we'll start to narrow down all the entries to just five or six finalists. Like with CC09 there'll be a poll here on the forums for everyone to vote for their favourite finalist, and whoever gets the most votes will win a shiny new PSP Go and LittleBigPlanet on PSP! :smileyvery-happy:

Do I need water to be able to enter?

If you've got the Pirates of the Caribbean Level Kit (containing water), you can go ahead and create your own level. If not, then don't worry - search for the level "CC10 - Template" by Nuclearfish and copy it to your moon. It's a very basic level containing water for you to build your contraption within!

Should the vehicle start on land or on water?

It doesn't matter - you can start on whichever you prefer. In the level you only need to demonstrate that the vehicle works on both and can transition at least once between the two. So if you started on land then drove into water, it doesn't need to have to get back on land.

Does the vehicle have to float on the surface of the water?

No, it can be partially or completely submerged if you want. You could even make something like a walking vehicle with extending legs that walk on the seabed whilst keeping sackboy above the surface if you think you can pull it off. :smileywink:

What does the level need to include?

Minimum - your vehicle, some land, some water and a scoreboard.

Preferred - all the above, with some nice visuals, a background, some music and maybe a character explaining how to use your vehicle. You don't need to go overboard with the level because the only thing we judge is the contraption, but it's always nice if it's in more than a plain and empty level. Also remember to give the level a description and a level icon when you publish.

How long does the level need to be?

The purpose of the level is only to show off your contraption, so don't make anything too long, because when it comes to judging we have a LOT to play through. A minute or two from start to finish is probably best.

Where can I get some inspiraton?

If you want to see what others have created to get some ideas, just do a level search for "CC10". There's also an example by Nuclearfish called "CC10 - Example" to show you the sort of thing you need to make, but you can probably do much better!

What do I need to do to make a winning contraption?

You want to make a vehicle that both looks awesome and is very creative in the way it works. You can take a look at the finalists from the previous contraptions to see exactly what makes them stand out above the rest.

Can I make more than one contraption?

You can make as many as you like! Just make sure you publish each as a separate level.

Can I edit my level after I've published it?

Yes, feel free to change it as much as you want, as long as you do so before the deadline.

I daren't , i just keep trying to tempt her to the PSP, "oooh look sweetheart, new Mahjog game on here for you" to which her reply is, can't you see and hear me singing, which i followed up (while my brain was shouting NOOOOO) "is that what you call it"......   Now my dinner's in the dog and she's singing louder.

You don't need it Antho!

Just search for the level 'CC10 - Template' and copy it to your moon. It has water in it, so you can build your contraption in there and re-upload it with a different name :smileyhappy:
