Event: Christmas Community Collaboration

[ Edited ]

The festive season is now upon us and in LittleBigPlanet, Christmas is a time for coming together. So with that, I'd like to invite you to take part in a special OPC collaboration project.

It starts with a boring, white box and it's your task to cram as much fun and Christmassy awesomeness into it as you can. Everyone's boxes will then be put together to make one giant level. You can choose between two templates:

LBP-Boxes.png

Both the wide and the tall versions are 20x11 large grid tiles so there's plenty of space for you to play with. You can do whatever you like in your box - a platforming sequence, a mini-game - just as long as you make it Christmas-themed (and within the rules below). If you want to, you can even include a Santa Claus Sackbot in your box to tell part of a story. It'll be fun to see how the narrative turns out when nobody knows what St. Nick is going to say in the next (or the previous) box.

Each box also contains a piece of sticker panel material. That's where you can print your PSN ID so that everyone knows who's box is who's when they play the level.

I mentioned that Christmas is all about coming together but it's also about rivalry and competition! This event is being held alongside similar ones on the Spanish and German PlayStation boards so you'll really need to put your best creating hats on if were's going to show those guys who has the most creative community.

How to take part

  • Add the account "CCC-EN" as a PlayStation Network friend - I'll be checking the account and accepting friend requests every few days
  • Play this level in LBP to pick up the level templates
  • Design your piece of the level
  • When you're done, publish the level with "CCC" in the title and make it copyable. Do not put your box in a prize bubble because we may need to make minor changes to it to make the levels fit together properly
  • If you want to lock your level, send CCC-EN the level key

The rules

  • Your design must be Christmas themed
  • Sackboy must enter on the left and exit on the right
  • You may change the light matter to another material if you wish, just make sure it stays put!
  • Sackboy must exit your box on-foot, without any power-ups
  • You may not change the size or shape of the box, or place any objects that reach outside of your box
  • You may move the sticker panel material and make it smaller if you wish but don't make it any bigger than it's original size

We'll (hopefully) have a lot of boxes to put together so in the interest of saving thermometer space please...

  • Don't use water
  • Don't use any Sackbots other than a single Santa Claus (if you don't have the Santa Claus outfit, leave the Sackbot plain and I'll add the costume afterwards)
  • Don't go mad with logic or different types of stickers and decorations

If your box uses too much thermometer space we may not be able to include it in the final level. We can use level links when we have to but the level won't be any fun if players have to sit through a loading screen after every section.

As we will need to be able to edit your creation in order to put all of the pieces together, you may only include items that came with LBP 1 or 2 or in the following DLC packs:

  • Metal Gear Solid Level Kit
  • Pirates of the Carribean Level Kit
  • Monsters Pack
  • History Pack
  • The Incredibles Level Kit
  • Toy Story Level Kit
  • Marvel Level Kit
  • PlayStation Move Pack
  • Christmas Mini-Pack

That's just about it! Get your creations finished by 23:59 on Monday 19th December then, in-keeping with the boxyness of event, we'll throw all of your boxes together and publish one epic Christmassy level on Boxing Day!

Thanks and have fun!

Re: Event: Christmas Community Collaboration

Sorry about the spam, but before I get too far into this, Would it be ok if I use both of the different boxes for my contribution, or should I stick to one or the other?

Re: Event: Christmas Community Collaboration

Good question!

Yes, each participant may submit up to two boxes. If you want your boxes to go one after the other in the final leve, stick them together. Otherwise, leave them separate to have them in a random order among the other entires.
