Welcome to the ninth LittleBigPlanet Contraption Challenge!
For this challenge you need to make some sort of vehicle capable of crossing over a large gap. It can do this however you want, whether it be jumping over, extending to the other side, flying across, building a bridge for itself or anything else - the more creative and original your idea, the better!
To take part, all you need to do is create a new level. Build two sections of land with a gap in the middle, stick an entry checkpoint on one side and a scoreboard on the other. Then create your contraption on the starting side. Test it regularly to make sure it safely crosses the gap. Add some music, a nice background, and maybe set up a story with some characters explaining what you need to do. When you're done, you should give it a name with CC09 in the title. This is so that everyone can easily find all the levels.
You have until Sunday 27th December 2009 to get your level published, which means you'll have all the time over Christmas to work on it! After that we'll narrow down all the entries until we have five or six finalists, and from there everyone will be able to vote for their favourite. Whoever gets the most votes wins! ![]()
How big does the gap need to be?
Any size you want, but it needs to at least be a bit bigger than your vehicle. There's no point making a gap that you can drive straight over, is there? ![]()
What sort of vehicle should it be?
What we mean by vehicle is any form of transport that goes across land.It could be a regular car or truck, or something crazier like a giant walking robotic octopus. The important thing is how it manages to get across the gap!
What do I need to do to make a winning contraption?
You want to make a vehicle that both looks awesome and is very creative in the way it works. Obviously it has to work well too, but an elaborate contraption that takes a couple of minutes to slowly but ingeniously cross the gap is better than a rocket powered cheetah that simply flies over. It would be worthwhile taking a look at the finalists from the previous contraptions to see exactly what makes them stand out above the rest.
I don't have any ideas. Where can I get some inspiration?
Take a look at what everyone else has made by searching for 'CC09'. To start things off there's an example level by Nuclearfish which shows a very basic extending vehicle.
I'm not very good at creating levels and scenery. Help?!
If you want to focus more on the contraption without worrying about the rest of the level, then search for 'CC09' in LBP and find the 'CC09 - Template' level by Nuclearfish. It's a copyable template which you're free to use as a starting point. You can use it as it is or edit it as much as you want.
Can I make more than one contraption?
Yes, you can make as many as you want! Just make sure you publish each as a separate level.
Can I edit my level after I've published it?
Yes, feel free to change it as much as you like, as long as you do so before the deadline.
Now that online create is here, can I enter as a team?
Yes, you can work on your contraption with up to 3 other people if you want to. Just make sure that you include the names of everyone who helped out in either the level title or description when you publish it.
Can I make a level on the PSP?
Unfortunately this event is only for the PS3 version of LBP. Sorry!
What can I win?
All the finalists will get their level recorded in a video which will be featured on the PlayStation Blog. For this challenge there's no prize for winning, but you'll get the satisfaction of knowing that you're the best. ![]()

Yay another Contraption Challenge!
I do love looking at these. Amazing stuff and love the ideas and creative style of the levels. Look forward to seeing everyone's choice of vehicle.
I never actually made a vehicle before on LBP, so be interesting to see the different looks of vehicles people make.
Good luck everyone!
