What makes an LBP level fun?

I've only ever created one level, which was me mucking about with the objects I have unlocked to create a level for the Lady for Valentines day.   One year on, and this is still all I've created.  Obviously this level is more personal hence it not being published for you guys and girls to play.

I feel inspired to make a proper level after seeing some great entries in the contraption challenges we have had.  I got an idea, but not sure how to go about it.  I think it is best if I find out what works and what doesn't for the community.

So what do you personally think makes an LBP level enjoyable?

Having a decently planned level, having a large section of "jump over these many things, miss one or you die then start at the start" is not fun

I like the good old platform based ones, but with lots of moving objects. Don't forget bad guys also to kill.

i've found that some of the most popular ones are really detailed, even if the gameplay isn't that good, if you make it look great using every layer, then you should get very good results.

I find for me to really enjoy a level, it has to be the right length, work well, and have a good theme that is applied all the way through the level. :smileyhappy:

Re: What makes an LBP level fun?

For my idea, this water thingy would seem very handy.  How much does it cost?

Thanks Mattiebo, will try make the most use out of layers then.

I think I will include enemies Carla, but wont need a "final boss".  I disagree that fun games must include a baddie, but for my level it be pants if I didn't include them.

Re: What makes an LBP level fun?

lol nah it was innocent. Just created objects out of letters of her name. Made a big friendly monster in shape of the letter " i " and made a swinging heart, that you had to use to get on top of the letters. Each letter was a different kind of obstacle to get past. I thought it was kinda cool. I put cool sounding noises and everything in it. When you get to the end you win the prize of a mug shot of my face :smileyvery-happy:
