On the normal PSP in the settings it has "Format Memory Stick" so it may have something similar for your hard-drive, but like I said it may only be for the normal PSP.
Yeah, mine has "format System Storage" and "format memory stick", so i'll have a go and tell you the results!
Oh My gGosh, planetian, you are a life saver! your plan worked so well! thanks a load! the only downside was all my saved games were deleted :S

Sorry about your save data, I actually had a similar problem but it was earlier in my profile ("just finished Down Under" kind of early) so I tried formatting my Memory Stick and it worked fine.
Good Luck with your working LBP!
Most likly the broblem is too many moving things in your level. Ever notice on some games that when you have alot of activity (alot of things moving around at once) on the screen that the game slows down? Well that could be the problem. The psp is trying to load up your level but it cant handle prossesing that much information at once so it freezes and shuts down. Its like a failsafe so your psp doesnt burn itself out.
I had the same problem on my psp 2000 after I tried playing a level sombody made.
