One of the biggest game releases of the year has been delayed because music lyrics in a background song could have caused offense to Muslim players.
Sony is now hastily recalling all copies of LittleBigPlanet that had been sent to retailers and manufacturing new discs of the PlayStation 3 blockbuster with the offending music track removed.
"During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Koran," Sony said in a statement.
"We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused."
LittleBigPlanet was set for release in New Zealand on Thursday. A Sony Computer Entertainment Australia spokesman said the company does not yet have a new release date for the game but is confident the delay will "a couple of weeks not months".
A post on the official PlayStation forums from "Yasser" says "we Muslims consider the mixing of music and words from our Holy Koran deeply offending (sic)" and that it was not the first time that games had contained material offensive to Muslims.
He said the offending musical track was in the first level of the third world in the game (Swinging Safari) and featured Arabic words from the Koran translated as "Every soul shall have the taste of death" and "All that is on earth will perish".

Well we all knew that freedom of speach is a thing of the past...
I am wondering what dumb@zz thought it was a smart thing to add content from the koran in the 1st place?
The the game go out... patch it so the music is removed... and stop trying to please everyone, it's never going to happen!

They used a 2 year old song (made by a guy who is also a Muslim) and unless you know and understand arabic, you wouldn't have had any idea what the hell was being said.
EDIT: And this whole thing just gets more ridiculous...
Islamic Group Weighs In On LBP Recall
The non-profit American Islamic Forum For Democracy has spoken out against Sony's decision to recall LittleBigPlanet, calling the move "censorship".
M. Zuhdi Jasser, M.D, director of the AIFD, said that, “Muslims cannot benefit from freedom of expression and religion and then turn around and ask that anytime their sensibilities are offended that the freedom of others be restricted."
Jasser added that the Prophet, "defended the rights of his enemies to critique him in any way even if it was offensive to his own Islamic sensibilities or respect for Koranic scripture.”
Not that he is calling Sony an enemy of Islam or anything but.. well, you get his point.
Muslim Group Condemns LBP “Censorship”
I haven't got a FacePalm pic big enough for all of this.

I got mine yesterday (monday 20/10).
I've uploaded a couple of short vids of me playing it. Might make some decent ones on the weekend.
