BEST CQB WEAPON?

Hi guys,

Just starting to play MAG.  I am  building up my skill points, developing both my main weapon and characteristics.  I just wanted your opinion on what is the best CQB weapon to get?  The shotguns seem pretty deadly and when I scavenge them they seem to own but the SMG's seem good also.  I'm Raven if that that makes any difference.

Thanks,

You've got it already i think mate, the shotgun or the SMG. The shotgun is best real close quarters and the SMG is for more general use by comparison.

The upgraded side arm is worth a mention as its pretty mean to switch to when your clip runs out, but be careful of your credit allowance in  your loadout

Getting the motion sensor can be very good for those weapons as you can track your enemies movement and narrow the distance you before break cover and attack. Combine this with improved stealth for a deadly set up

i'd also look at getting the increased running ability because you're going to be doing alot of running between cover in open areas of the map. You'll be no use returning fire from range so keep running between cover. Poision gas or smoke grenades can also be useful for this set-up to give mobile cover

It depends how close you want to get. I have used the SMG extensively and I've only used the Shotgun a little bit. At the moment I am really enjoying the shotgun, I find that the SMG is a great all-round weapon, it has a generous clip size. good rate of fire and can work effectively from short-medium range. It can also be used effectively on both assault and defence.

The shotgun is deadly but you can't really afford to miss the target. Using poison gas and flash bangs really helps to catch the enemy off guard for some easy kills.

The best CQC/CQB weapon is, hands-down, the knife... make sure you get all the knife skills. Beyond that, being on Raven, the F90 is one of the most reveared weapons in the entire game; it's like a frikkin' lazer beam!

However, if you love the instant death appeal that the shotgun gives you, consider upgrading your sidearm so that you've got something with a little range on it. Combining the PDW with the shotgun is a soul-destroying tactic, especially if you're a bit of a FRAGO camper.

Re: BEST CQB WEAPON?

SMG struggle against heavy amour

Shotgun can be very powerful 1hit kill but equally 3 hit kill, very hit & miss at times

Now the knife with extended reach & light composite.....dance & jump around killing at will whilst the red dots shoot each other trying to get you

I think it all depends on how flexible you want to be and what your style of play is.  (Faction will also matter given that the SMG is not standard spec.)

I used the SMG a lot at the start and loved it (SVER massive clip size though).  This was before they nerfed the long range effectiveness but it's still great close up.

I am now using the shotgun for CQB, and while it is more powerful, you have to be a lot more accurate with it and if you meet a cluser of enemies at once, you are unlikely to be able to kill more than 2 of them unless you take them by surprise.  This is because you can only shoot as fast as it takes to 'pump', regardless of if you kill them in one.  I have had times where I can't shoot fast enough.

The SMG doesn't tend to suffer from this.

The shotgun seems to be very poor more than a few metres away so if you're up against pretty much anything else, you have to close the gap or you'll unlikely survive.

Knife has been annoying me lately.
