Basing your decision to buy a game on a beta is ludicrous, due to the feedback from the beta could change whatever is that causes you to feel that way. Your first two posts implies you'll "play" the beta, possibly decide its not for you & give up on it thus wasting a Beta spot.

didnt they do that when we tested the co-op part of girl with a stick

Unfortunately that looks more and more common these days :smileysad:
Sony really moved the goal posts with the Fat Princess "Beta" which was a glorified PR stunt of which probably most of the users never gave any feedback :smileysurprised:
Hopefully MAG will rectify this error. Whilst I like every other non-beta trial member would love to get to grips with this game I would rather the places were taken by people who will endevour to make the game better for when it is released. :smileywink:
A demo is a trial of a finished article whereas a beta is a pre-release code of the game which will not have gone through rigorous testing. There are obvious exceptions but this is the general idea.
Whilst Beta's are needed this generation as games get too big to test in house I hope they will continue to be useful first and foremost as a stage in product development and refinement rather than the first step in the marketing cycle. :smileyhappy:

i think most of us beta tester gave feed back when we could

What I meant is those who did the cake eating competition for the codes, not the official beta testers :smileywink:

Re: M.A.G Beta Trial community only in EUROPE

if people want to play this to see if its any good then forget it you will probably not enjoy the experience

a beta tester has to have perticular qualities, very analytical mind, spot little texture flaws, gameplay inconsistancies,

like playing along shot someone from 10 ft away with a shotgun and get a headshot kill in 1 shot, you would most likely think "aww kool shotguns will be very useful in this game", what you should think is , "hey hold on, now i dont think a shotgun should really be able to do that, the lethal kill distance or damage degradation over distance and spead of fire is obviously not correct."

Re: M.A.G Beta Trial community only in EUROPE

i would hope with the shear size of matches in this that they will need more beta testers than the current pool of testers can supply, meaning phase 2 some time soon will include public beta member inclusion through codes for server load testing.

No pledging alligiances MB?:smileysad:

lol, I can see this thread turning slowly into the "post your name if you want in" thread!

I think its definately the right move though to confine it to Beta trial members instead of just Joe public for the very reasons mentioned above, a lot of people won't give any feedback and just end up playing the game:smileyindifferent:

That pretty much sums up why they don't look likely to release an open beta TBH.

The majority of people see beta as nothing more than an early preview of the game and see it as a perk rather than a responsibility.

Yes, us beta testers do have the bonus of getting to see games early but our main role is to test the game and spot any glitches, imbalances or server performance problems and the SOCOM beta is a good example of it's importance. Also, when a lot of these games first hit closed beta stage they're rarely 'fun' to play because of all these issues!

Because the SOCOM beta was so buggy and laggy most people simply thought "Euuugghh, this is buggy, i'm not going to play it"... The upshot is that all the time, effort and resources that were put into staging a beta were pretty much wasted as they didn't get the feedback they needed.

That's why the official Beta Trial Member is so much more useful and why most developers would much rather use that than open beta's. The vast majority of beta trial members are people who got their status because they are active and helpful community members so have a history of given helpful advice and feedback, exactly the sort of people Dev's can rely on to give feedback.... Except Kingfox of course who just sent all the mods on the OPC a brown paper bag stuffed full of used notes :smileyvery-happy:
