Tips on MAG

Hi

I have just started playing MAG my pmc is RAVEN and i am finding it hard to get more than three kills in a game. yeah yeah you can all lol. I know it is pathetic. I have never played this badly in a game and no i am not blaming MAG. MAG is great it is just me.

So i was just wondering if you guys could give me any advice, weapon to use, tactics etc.

In mw2 people die much quicker so i find it easier lol.

Cheers

MAG is a lot different to other FPS. It takes a lot longer to get used to.

Imo, the first thing you should to is get the medical kit with rez, you get 10xp from each rez.

Then the next thing is find a weapon that suits your style.

eg, I use the ATAC, mainly because I can sneak around, but still can put up a fight and win if I need to.
Most people starting out tend to gravitate towards the LMG so thats probabaly a good palce to start.

Also find yourself a good group of people to play with. They can teach you a lot of ins and outs of the maps and objectives. Since you are in Raven you are in luck because the BTG clan are also Raven :smileyhappy: So I along with the others I'm sure would be more than happy to help :smileyhappy:

Re: Tips on MAG

  • First off forget about everything you know about MW2.
  • Play as a team so stick with your squad.
  • Camping is a lot more acceptable in this game especially when defending so don't think of it as a bad thing (In fact I hate the word camping).
  • Either crouch or go prone when shooting the extra health gives you time to do this and the difference in accuracy is huge always fire more shots than needed don't be stingy on bullets even when sniping.
  • Make use of cover ie. Having half your body behind a tree or some sandbags allowing you to shoot back whilst being a difficult target yourself.
  • Flank ie. Avoid head to head confrontation swing around left or right depending on which offers more concealment.
  • Distance yourself from the enemy when possible.
  • Fire in short bursts MW2 had very rapid auto-leveling when firing on full auto meaning that you could just hold down the trigger and you your aim would shift upwards slightly but then stay there. LMG's and Assault rifles benefit from 2-4 round bursts.
  • Knifing IS a last resort it will not lock on from a distance of 10 metres for an insta-kill only knifing from the back will kill instantly and it needs to be pretty well lined up.
  • Make use of lulls in the fighting or cover to get yourself prepared Reload, Heal, Check Map, Discuss(when using a mic) and count equipment.
  • Only reload when behind cover
  • Increase sensitivity of the controls (I have mine all the way up)
  • Don't sprint when you don't need to, save your energy
  • Cross open ground perpendicular or at around 45 degree angles to enemy fire stopping to regain stamina in between crossings
In Relation to weapons this is what I have.
For each of my classes
  • Tier 3 Assault rifle w/ Reflex & Foregrip
  • Tier 2 Assault rifle w/ 4x Optics & Foregrip
  • Light LMG w/ Reflex & Foregrip
  • Heavy LMG w/ Reflex & Bipod
  • Light Sniper w/ Foregrip
Also Depending on the stance of you opponent adjust your bursts accordingly eg. When using my M14 at a reasonable distance being a lot weaker than other rifles I fire 1-2 rounds in rapid succession for a prone target 2-3 for a crouching target and 3-4 for a standing target.
Thats about all I can think about hope it helps :smileyvery-happy:

Tips

  • Forget about your K/D ratio, no one else can view it anyway, ( team success > then your own accomplishments)
  • crouch when re-stocking ammo at a supply drop
  • choose loadouts carefully depending on the game type,

ie. In ACQ/DOM if on the attacking side, consider taking a rocket launcher for vehicles/bunker turrets.

If defending then consider taking a repair kit, neither of these two items are necessary or worth taking into  Sabotage( the noob game mode, favoured by Valour)

  • always take a med-kit to revive allies (important they just might save your life a few seconds later + its 10 xp per revive), and heal yourself
  • have GTR, Whitney and Arathane in your squad..Then let the good times roll:Peace:

No! Bad idea! Then he won't get any points!

:smileytongue:

But this suggestion is probably one of the best. Play with a bunch of experienced players (ie. BTG & Friends) who can answer any questions you have, as well as show you some good strategies. The game has been out for a while now, so trying to learn everything yourself is a waste of time when someone could just tell you everything you need to know as you're going. Think of it as an active commentary as sorts.

Re: Tips on MAG

Agreed, its always best to play with people that know what they are doing. Although i dont know how much help id be as i spend most of my time lying on the ground (till D-X revives me and then i get shot down again immediately :smileytongue:)

Hi,

Thanks for the tips/ life saving advice much appreciated. I think i am being to impatient lol. Once I start putting some more hours in and rank up more I should get better. I just feel like a let down to the team when i play badly. Do you unlock better weapons and armour as you rank up? Only it seems that some people die much faster than others. For instance i will have already hit someone 3 times and then he just fires 2 shots and i am down. LOL it makes me feel like a fly that has just been swatted.

Cheers
