So I bought MGS4 a couple of weeks ago, played through the story mode and stuff. Then went to check out MGO. Problem is, when I push X on Metal Gear Online on the main menu the screen goes black and then I go back to the XMB. Has anyone else encountered this? If so how do you fix it? If not what should I do?

It doesn't sound like an error in connecting to the servers, as it should prompt you with a EULA before any thing. If the the game is quitting out completley to the xmb, theres is a  possibility that the installed data could be corrupt, or there could be problems with the system or the game

- Firstly download the new 2.80 System update, the update is designed to improve stability & stop games from freezing & crashing, the update is not mandatory, so if you dont have it you'll need to check for the update data in system update. 

- Delete the installation for MGS4 within your game data utility, & re load mgs4, unfortunatley this will also delete any podcasts, & previous mgo updates you've downloaded but not your single player progress.
