Do you really want MGS5?

I recently read an article on Kotaku, in which the author of said article says she does not want to see MGS5.

http://kotaku.com/5864183/i-love-metal-gear-but-i-dont-want-a-metal-gear-solid-5

Personally, its not something I want either, although for different reasons.

Thoughts on the article???

Re: Do you really want MGS5?

Metal Gear has ended, in my eyes.

I agree with parts of the article, about games being the best expression of the creator. I felt that MGS4 was Hideo telling us it's over now.
The fact snake is old and dying, he is stubborn in his old ways (mainly smoking) and everyone else is trying to stop him, says to me that Snake's time has passed. The fact that the gameplay is so different, a lot more like modern games at the time, says to me that Snake has been dragged into a new way of doing things and it doesn't suit. At least Snake had the benefit of of leaving, probably to die, and that's how I'll see that story. Snake went away to live his last days away from fighting. And when he dies, with him will the Metal Gear Saga.
Anything that comes after will feel like 'Star Trek the Next Generation' felt to the fans of the original... who is this in the captain's chair? Who's that guy? Why the hell is there a Klingon in the crew!? This is nonsense. Or like turning up at school to find you have that teacher you hate taking the class you usually mess around in...
Sorry for the Trekky reference but it's how I felt I could express it.

Re: Do you really want MGS5?

How about a MGS5 without Snake? Just like we had MGS3 with Big Boss.
Or we could even have Raiden if need be or someone else altogether. (The Boss?)

Re: Do you really want MGS5?

Well, yes and no, the point is, for the story to have any credibility in any future games then its going to have to fit nicely along the timieline of the current series of games. As such, its going to have to come to an end at some point and quite frankly I think its now (well, after rising) every loose end is tied nicely, there will be no more plot holes, no more unknowns and no more back from the dead retcons.

To make another game, as another character, for instance the boss you'd open up very few tie ins with the current plot that it would make more sense to just start another franchise afresh (yes I'm aware that you could shoot the sorrow, meet strangelove etc etc but its not enough). If a new game were to come about it would have to be a prequel, which presents its own set of problems.

Games as an industry features very little in the way of plot, which is sad since they are a fantastic medium for it, and developers want more 'sequel factor' than in the film or book industry.  Fans of games also push for sequels where they really aren't necessary, God of War 4? Heavy Rain 2? They just shouldn't happen. I'd have thought fans of metal gear would appreciate a decent plot, but apparently not. To convolute the plot further would detract from the original titles and seeing as how the story doesn't need it, and Kojima doesn't want to do it personally I'd love to see it end with rising and be put to bed as a classic franchise.

The above is opinion of course.

Oh, and I'd like to see ZOE3

Re: Do you really want MGS5?

Well whatever they do, if they do make a new MGS game, I'm sure I'll still buy it haha.

They're still yet to make a MGS Karting game!

I too would like to see the Metal Gear games remade too but I'm not sure if that will ever happen.

Re: Do you really want MGS5?

Well, yeah, I'd buy MGS5 regardless.

Anyway, as for MG, MG2 remakes, personally being against all this HD remake nonsense you'd have thought I'd be hellbent on not seeing one.

I would however, much like to see them remade, I dunno why, I think its because I played them on the subsistence disc since the games are actually older than me.

Whilst the games themselves are somewhat outdated I'm not sure some of the names of the characters would make it in a modern day cut of the msx games. Although yeah, I don't see it happening either.

As for a kart racing game I've been trundling round modnation racers this evening in a foxhound kart with psycho mantis at the wheel!!!

Re: Do you really want MGS5?

hell yeah mgs5! im a big fan i think mg & mg2 would be awsome hd 3d , imagine fighting big boss ! also what about metal gear liquid , he deserves a game see him go bad or mgs5 could chart solid & liquid's fighting together , or big boss finds out about his sons , or maybe mgs5 could be about the boss . her training big boss , there are stories to be told , imagine fighting grey fox in a mine field bare fisted in hd ( mg or mg2 cant remember what 1)solid snake v naked snake in zansibar . in conclusion mgs5 is inevitable & i cant wait

It's like I said, a switch around of people would be too drastic of a change for me. And as for playing as Big Boss again, it'd be too samey to have another prequel where they swap Socoms for M9s and Stealth Mines for Claymores... its been done now.

Obviously I can't say 'I won't play any more MGS games' because they could reveal something to alter my opinion. But truth be told, I can't say what that opinion changer would BE. I can't see where they can go with MGS is my point.

Re: Do you really want MGS5?

[ Edited ]

Just to update now that there's a new Rising Trailer:
I still don't want there to be a Metal Gear Solid 5. Solid Snake is done, dusted and dead imo.
