Kojima Remembers MGS1

“There are a lot of people wanting remakes of the original, and as producer I want to answer those calls” say Kojima. “But as a creator I’m not very interested in going back. If we were to do it, it would have to be a total remake – the only thing that would be the same would be the story."

Re: Kojima Remembers MGS1

We know that Kojima is a fan of Assassin's Creed, so he should take some ideas from that format and work them in. I mean this in the respect that he could go back to the old adventures if he wanted, and tell us, the gamer "What you know about shadow moses is what 'they' want you to know. The truth is as follows..."
Then he could give us all the games again, that follow a very similar plot, but allow for subtle changes that would be required by it being modern game. For example "Snake didn't take on a tank with nothing but grenades, this is Chuck Norris Nonsense, no... He actually defeated the tank by.... *we get to play a new boss fight mechanic*.

Just one of my ideas there.... The patriots could have tricked us all into believing in Ghosts, floating mind readers and giant robots all this time, but the truth is more ugly. War and death is ugly is a message Kojima likes a lot.

It'd be good, lol.
It could be Old Snake on his deathbed setting the record straight to a reporter or journalist. A bit like Interview with the Vampire...

Re: Kojima Remembers MGS1

Just read this on Kotaku, personally I don't want to see a remake. Kojima's point about the remake needing to be modernised rather than simply graphic enhancements like the HD collection is an interesting one. I don't know if remaking the gameplay and control inputs will sit well with purists to be honest, whilst keeping it the same would probably put off newcomers. On a related note, I just found out the HD collection doesn't feature new control mappings, balls (apart from peace walkers camera).

As for Garry's idea about being lied to and manipulated by the patriots, its a tad retconny for me. More to the point I cannot stress enough how much I don't want a sequel to MGS4, prequels are fine however.

Re: Kojima Remembers MGS1

I think deep down I just want MGS to make up it's frikkin' mind. One minute we're futuristic, walking robots and stealth equipped mines, octocamo and junk, then we're eating animals in the jungle with a beard and C3 explosive is cutting edge. It's not just the era jumping, it's the style too... it's gone from being all out balls to the wall coolness (MGS1 and 2) to beardy realism with a twist (MGS3, PO, PW) then tried to go all serious again (MGS4).... now we have Rising on the way (I know, 'its not real because I wuv snake too much' but still) and talk of an MGS5 which will probably be a return to realism and emotional story telling via the awesomeness that is The Boss...
What genre are you! :smileymad:

Re: Kojima Remembers MGS1

I think I'd still love the game if they remade MGS1 haha.
If anything though, as said a million times by me and other people, they should remake the Metal Gear games.

Kojima Remembers MGS2

“Revisiting that top-down camera was a little difficult,” he says.” We experimented with putting a 3D camera in there, but you’d see things you weren’t supposed to see and it threw off the balance.

Kojima Remembers MGS3

“There’s nothing too difficult – it already had a 3D camera that you could control, so it was easy to get back into that. I think the thing that you feel most is how the controls have aged.”

I dunno about 'aged', personally I've always hated them. Why say this off the back of rereleasing the game without updating the controls!?
