Re: MGS Portable Ops

Peace Walker is brilliant, if you like Portable Ops you'll be amazed by Peace Walker. I'd suggest the demo first to see if you like the more 'console style' controls but PSN is bein' funny right now.

Definatly get Peace Walker if you have a PSP, it's one of the few great games on there.

What Garry said really.

If you're enjoying Portable Ops, you HAVE to get Peace Walker!

It's so much better.

You could do what Garry said as well and try the demo out first.

Unfortunately PSN is down atm, so that will have to wait.

I'd say go for it and buy it, surely you'd be able to get it fairly cheap now.

[ Edited ]

Just buy it, its by far a better game than portable ops. Probably the best game on the PSP, I've sunk more hours into it than a lot of console games, I'm at the 40 hour mark on my second save, plenty to do as well, I'm no where near done with it. It can get frustrating if you don't have two players though, i.e. a friend with another psp and peace walker, but don't let that put you off.

EDIT: The story is a little too reliant on you having played MGS3 though, well, in my opinion anyway.

I was trying to express that but without making the game he already has seem so bad, lol.

But yeah Peace Walker beats it, but you should finish Portable Ops ... you're probably used to the controls by now. :smileyhappy:

And good call Surreal, I forgot about the web links to demos.

Re: MGS Portable Ops

The controls were hard to get the hang of and they are still abit annoying but ive learnt to look past them because i love MGS games, are the controls in Peace Walker different?

Re: MGS Portable Ops

There's 2 distinct control methods in Peace Walker:

1) Shooter Controls - this maps movement to the left analogue stick and the camera/aiming is controlled by the 4 face buttons on the right

2) Action controls - pretty much the same as Portable Ops controls

Once you've finished Portable Ops you should definitely check out the demo for Peace Walker as its pretty beefy and gives you a good idea of what to expect from the full game. There's also 2 radical changes to the gameplay that have been added from MGS4: crouching and free aim. Crouching has basically replaced crawling since the latter wouldn't work in co-op snake formation and free-aim disables auto aim by default and gives you an aiming reticule similar to what the majority of 3rd person shooters use.

Other then the above, the basic gameplay has pretty much stayed the same except that you can only take 1 soldier out onto the field (unless you have co-op friends), recruiting enemies has been made a lot easier thanks to the fulton system and levels are made up by a series of connecting environments like in previous MGS games as opposed to the "multi-player arenas" used in Portable Ops.

Re: MGS Portable Ops

Surreal your an absolute legend mate lol thanks for the info thats a massive help and those controls make alot more sense as its almost like you've got another analogue stick so it would feel more natural
