There is a cause for that, I got to the conclusion that it was a bum when you go at different speeds, that tends to happen in the start if you don't boost and the one behind you crash into you knocking you to the side, I got a chance to see it in a detailed way once, I don't remember the track name but i was taking a shortcut that ended in the main road in a straight line and someone else was taking the curve to the same place, when i fell from the shorcut this player crashed almost directly into my side and since we both were at full speed he kcnocked me out like if it was a sidesweep and it wasn't since he couldn't even see me fall it would have been very hard to guess my landing point AND sidesweep me.
So my thoughts on this is that when someone hits you at high speed in an angle this tends to be counted as a crahs againts something solid like columns or things like that

It might help to state which tracks this occurs on, but I think I might know the problem. The explosive barrels both large and small as well as devastators have an unseen shockwave radius when they explode/pound. If you're within the radius then your kart will hiccup and stall for a short time. Obviously, no warning comes from these objects and you don't have to be on top of them for this to happen.

I've definitely experienced this too. A couple of times I've boosted at the beginning of the race and if the person in front of me doesn't I come to a stop like with a sideswipe. It doesn't happen every time though, and the majority of the time they just get pushed aside while I zoom on past.
My guess would be it happens when you are hit (or you hit someone) at a certain angle and speed on the backend of the karts. That's the only time I've noticed anything coming close to a sideswipe without it being a sideswipe (or lagged one).
It seems to be a cetain angle and speed for sure.

That actually makes a lot of sense.
I'm putting that in the guide.
I won't test it since i already know what happens, but it definitely describes the situations in which it has happened.
Thanks.
