Data Transfer Utility

I'm about to get a new PS3 and would like to rely on the built-in data transfer utility to move stuff from my currently working unit to the new one...I've heard a lot of different stories on what does or does not transfer from the MNR game data but all of these stories seem to relate to non-DTU approaches (memory stick transfer/backup utility).

Has anybody used the data transfer utility using 2 working PS3s? If so what gets transferred in regard to:

- Season progress and, more importantly, the unlockable objects

- Current mods, karts, and tracks being worked on but not yet published

- My available list of downloaded mods/karts/tracks

I've done the data transfer utility and it completely fails in regards to anything MNR.

-Any work in progress does not get transfered.

-ANYTHING you've downloaded does not get transfered.  That means if you've downloaded a mod/kart that is no longer published there is no way to use it again unless the original creator re-publishes it and you re-download it.

You even have to go so far as to download your OWN creations again to be able to use them.  It doesn't even transfer those.

I believe the only thing it does transfer is your career progress and unlocked items.  Not 100% certain on the career though, I was done with it when I did the transfer and have never been back.  All the items unlocked through token purchases are still unlocked though.

Re: Data Transfer Utility

Wow that really bites but thanks for the info.

Too bad you can't upload a MNR profile somewhere that stores all of your work-in-progress and downloads lists, I definitely don't want to publish half-finished stuff as remixable so I can download it later to finish it. Plus, wouldn't the items then show up in the downloads section as opposed to your own creations??

Now I'm curious about where that data is stored and why the copy-protection transfer rules don't apply here.

Anybody know of any solutions for this? I would assume the backup utility would be treating this data the same way...

Well you don't have to publish work in progress stuff as remixable since once you download on the new PS3 the system recognizes it as your creation.

What I did was publish from the old PS3, log in on the new PS3, download and then unpublish.  You then have the work in progress on your new PS3 and the half assed creation isn't out there for others to download.

it's a pain and a process we shouldn't have to deal with, but it works.
