LBP:Karting - San Diego Studio Jam - MUST READ!

Okay, I admit it, I've done a total U-turn over my boycotting of LBP: Karting. I've sepnt the last few days playing LBP2 TO DEATH and can honestly say its tool are fantastic (if a little hard to get used to using first off). Some of the stuff people have made on LBP2 is nothing short of mindblowing and I am suddenly EXTREMELY excited for LBP: Karting which now has a confirmed release date of November 2012.

The advent of FULL 3D creation within a feature-packed editor like LBP is the logical evolutionary step for the karting genre. Yes, I'll be sad to see the back of Tag and chums BUT, the sort of stuff you'll be able to create on LBP:K should quickly outweigh that disappointment and you'll simply be wondering how you can possibly find hours in the day to experience all the goodness the game promises to offer.  But hey, don't take my speculative word for it, READ this wonderful blog post about 8 lucky gamers who got to spend 1 week with the game hands-on at the Sony studio's in California. If you weren't convinced beforehand, then the firsthand experience these guys got of the 3D create tools and environments should certainly get the creative pulses racing in anticipation! :smileyhappy:

Yeah, I'm shifting as well. Tag replaced by Sackboy will be painful for me as well, but that's probably the only option we'll ever have (at least for this gen).

And yes, LBP's tools are a pain to use compared to MNR's; it takes forever to "build" something half decent.  Let's hope that much of MNR's tools got transferred to LPBK. I'm just worried that although the tools are better, we'll end up losing texture details like the ones that we have in MNR.

Well, let's hope we hardcore MNR fans get the beta code by next week and find out what this LBPK game has to offer.

I'm more concerned about kart physics.  Have I missed an article adressing what kind there are??  Will there be kart classes or anything of that sort??  Any ability to increase speed or technique besides drift-boosting??

My concern is every race basically coming down to who gets what weapons...instead of involving some skill. I remember one of the demo videos saying you can do something to affect speed....but it didn't go into detail.  Can anyone shed some light on this??

I don't like sacboy really but the game itself does look like it can be amazing.  After reading all of that from those people that got to try the game out it sounds like it's going to be great.  I'm just left wondering why they chose only LBP players and no MNR players to invite for that.  I look forward to the game being great along with having good dev support and a good community for a long time.

I thought the same. They seem to be avoiding any relation between MNR and LBPK. It's almost like MNR never existed.

I truly believe that 99% of the good tracks in LBPK will come from MNR creators.  LBP creators will keep creating those "movie" levels so common in that game (incredibly boring IMO).

I'm worried that the game will end up like LBP, boring with just a handful of good levels. I really disliked the online experience of both LBP games I have, after your through the 30-40 good levels there's nothing else left to do in the game.

I forecast that we'll end up seeing MNRers keeping together in that game as a separate community that wants to race and not decorate the pod, dance in the creation moon, or watch "Sackboy movies" like 99% of LBP folks do.

Well, at least next week will see what LBPK has to offer. That's IF, different from the event in San Diego,  MNRers get selected.

MNR = LBP. This explains.

I listened to a little bit of the pockect moon podcast and apparently some mnr folk were invited !? I couldn't listen to the whole thing as it was well late and on my ps3 i cant skip to specific bits ( maybe someone with a pc can investigate ) so maybe somebody from the nation did go and just aint on the article as its on a lbp website .. maybe? If thats the case then WHO!? did one of you west coasters go and are remaining tight lipped because of the nda, even worse did some total nomark who's not great at creating tracks go and let the side down ? I sure hope it not the latter .. THIS MYSTERY MUST BE SOLVED !

Bah, they should have invited me.  I'm only like 4-5 hours from San Diego.
