1. You could make a kart with a light on it and make your level dark, yes.
It is up to 8 players, but if you wanted more karts on the track, you could build a kart, add a motor that follows a path, make the path around the track, and then those karts would "race" around the track. They wouldn't be added to the place rankings, but you could have the illusion that a lot of karts are racing.

Sorry I meant instead of Square for weapons. The developers added an awesome feature where you can change in the option settings which control scheme you would like to play with:
R2-Gas L2-Brake X-Drift
X-Gas O-Brake R1-Drift (not sure about R1 for drifting since I used R2 and L2)

2. Yes, but I'm not sure if it's PSeye compatible.
Absolutely. It's even more flexible than that... You can not only have people driving whatever kart you want them to, but you can also activate karts using logic. A couple of examples:

All of the above are possible, but the chicken thing might be tough to pull off. You could do it but it would be hard and each of those ideas would require a lot of logic and transmitters.

Very interesting info indeed, much appreciated.

Oh god WOW mabster! This is AMAZING. Kudos to you. A few comments...
I love the fact that we can make cars that can drive around the circuit! That is so awesome! I think we are all relieved that editing is in real 3D, that was a great concern. Also I love the detail we'll be able to put in to the tracks from the reports.
BUT I'm scared about the racing options:
Slow top speeds?
Jumping into different karts or having your kart changed?
Do you want these sorts of things? Do you want to race as a cow instead of in your new kat that you spent hours making? Do you want to crawl though tracks at snail speed? I don't.
Also, custom weapons?
Maybe it's just me but this seems like a step back. I love the weapon system in MNR, the idea of upgrading weapons is a great one. Can we shield? If we can't then that's pretty sad. How do we know how to dodge certain weapons? Will some people litter their track with overpowered weapons and ruin their track? And my least favorite part was:
Yes, but it's much more automatic now and not displayed on screen. While drifting, your Kart's wheels convey how much boost you've built up, and then when you finish drifting the boost is used. After doing a trick in mid-air (a 360 for example) you'll earn boost, which will be spent automatically as soon as you land. It's actually really fun because it encourages you to do lots of drifting and tricks instead of hoarding boost."
Seriously, this is screwed up imo. Saving up boost for turbo and shield was a staple feature of MNR, it made racing fun. What if there is a sharp bend after the jump and you don't want to boost? What if you want to save it for a straight?
However, all in all it sounds promising, thanks so much mabster! I'll be following this closely now!

You nailed most of my concerns mini (specially the boost and the speed ones). I really hope that we don't end up like the regular LBPs with tons of awful levels and just a handful of good ones.
As for the information we got so far, I really don't think that there's any point on learning how to race in the game because every track will have different karts, different weapons, different speeds, different objectives, different rules, different "logic", and so on. IMO they are giving creators way too many options thinking that it'll improve the game, but I'm afraid it will end up ruining it.
The game may become just what they keep repeating, a kart adventure game (not a racing game). Which on the positive side keeps room for MNR2 as it would be a straight racing game.
