Summary of my experience with the beta
Racing experience:
IMO it should be the most enjoyable part of a RACING game, but it turned out to be the worst part of the game by a long shot.
It isn't only the floating crappy drifting, the useless boosting, or the slow speed. The defence system is also ridiculous. There's no way of blocking multiple weapons and the freaking AI decides to shoot many of them at you at the final curves of a race resulting in total frustration. And yeah, I included AI as an issue as by the way the game's multiplayer is set out, racing AI may be the only option for most people.
Kart/Mod customization:
Inexistent in reality.
Dressing a sack boy in low quality DLC isn't customization on my books, at least not after MNR.
Track creation:
Can be very frustrating, but I have to admit that I had some fun. It's nice to be able to create your own props and all, but IMO it never looked really nice as I'm not a big fan of the craftwork style. Even the tracks considered "top notch" looked ugly to me. The track's decoration can be complicated and use lots of logic and stuff, but a simple pine tree from MNR looks nicer that any craftwork tree that I saw in the beta (never mind buildings). And the kart tweaking is BS as it is track specific and will not lead to a consistency in the game play experience.
So, will I get the game? I might eventually once it reaches the $19.99 cut point I have for dubious quality games.
Or if they implement so many changes that actually make the game enjoyable for me, which I doubt will happen.

I’ve only skimmed through this thread but I’ve played the Beta for a while and looked at some videos of creations. Overall I’m quite disappointed with the game, the first impression being that the racing seems incredibly slow. I don’t know if this will be improved upon in the final game, or if it can be tweaked in the settings, but it’s all very ponderous.
As for the creation aspects, it looks like there are an awful lot of powerful tools at the creators’ disposal, but from what I tried in the editor and seen in other tracks I’ve raced, there just doesn’t seem to be the level of detail available that the pre-built props of MNR provided. Detailed props with an element of realism were a key part of the style of my MNR tracks, and it just seems like an enormous amount of work to make anything even close in LBPK. I spent way too much time on MNR tracks and I get the impression it’ll take twice as long in LBPK. As a result, pretty much every track I tried of other people’s just looked bland and uninspired. Just the post on the PS Blog showcasing some of the best tracks made in the beta, all of them look drab in comparison to the early MNR creations. I’m sure some amazing stuff will crop up down the line, but it will require so much work that they will be very few and far between. I think people will have much wilder and grander ideas than MNR but not have the patience, skill, time or inclination to fully realise them, resulting in tracks similar to those on the blog.
I’ve not really done anything with the kart and driver creation, my initial impressions were that it was quite limited compared to MNR, but then I didn’t spent any time with it.
So as it stands I won’t be bothering with the final game, the create aspects of these games are always too involving and a generally regret the amount of time I spend on them afterwards anyway, so I’ll stick to simpler fare in the autumn, maybe rent the game after it’s had some time to settle in.
