ModNation Votes: Drift vs. Handling?

When racing...  Do you prefer greater emphasis on the drift settings or handling settings?

How much?

Why?

Re: ModNation Votes: Drift vs. Handling?

Depends on the track,  I leave my drift & handling at 0 so I don't have to keep chaning it each time the track changes.  I just do the best with what I have. Sometimes I go 1 to handling.  I don't go all drift or all handling because it seems to slow the car down at times.

Re: ModNation Votes: Drift vs. Handling?

I have mine set to +1 drift and it works great.

Honestly though, I have no idea what this setting means.Speed vs. acceleration I understand but I'm not sure with this one. My guess is:

+ drift = better handling when drifting ?

+ handling = better handling when not drifting?

Re: ModNation Votes: Drift vs. Handling?

Drift - More control over your kart while drifting, you can drift much tighter but it's a little slower

Handling - Less control over your kart while drifting, drifts are wider and a little faster

I prefer neutral handling though

Considering the source I will set my handling to neutral :smileyhappy:

Re: ModNation Votes: Drift vs. Handling?

I usually do neutral for casual rooms, and +2 sometimes for Hot Lap depending on the track thats up. Reason being is if there is one tight turn I have to get around a double hop or whatever its called usually gets around it just fine and the rest the extra speed while drifting feels more helpful.

I never go into Drift anymore because like stated above, it slows you down while drifting.

Yeah for hot lap I will throw on handling because it's a little faster. But I'll probably always stick with neutral on regular races just because I'm most comfortable with it. Yeah Madibart if you're used to running +1 drift for races, you might be thrown off a little at first because the drifts won't be as tight, but it will be a little faster :smileyhappy:

Re: ModNation Votes: Drift vs. Handling?

Here is a good rule of thumb:  The tighter you turn, the slower you go.  That's why + Handling is faster than + Drift.  With the + Drift Settings, whenever you go into a turn while drifting, you are forced into a tighter turn than the + Handling Settings.  That works great if the turn is tight.  But when it is a wide turn, or you are trying to drift on straights, you don't want to be in such a tight turn, so + Handling is better for those parts of the track (which is most of the track, BTW).

Because of that, I prefer +1 Handling in XP races.  I would love to use +2 Handling, but I find the turns a little too hard to take with that setting.  With +1 Handling, I can take most turns without double drifting, just by taking good racing lines.

+2 Speed setting takes way too long to get up to that top speed, because you have the worst acceleration.  I prefer               +1 Speed, because the acceleration is way better, and its top speed is still pretty fast.  In a large room when you get hit by many weapons, you really need the extra acceleration you get with this Setting.

That is my experience.  If any of the more experienced racers have a different take on this, let me know.   I'm still learning, too.

Re: ModNation Votes: Drift vs. Handling?

Well, I use 2+ Top Speed, and 1+ handling. I use that setting for all races.
