Re: Who wants to race Polyton?

Heck I'll post it here, keep in mind this was in a timed paper for children aged 13-16. No calculators were allowed.

"Terry has invented a new way to extend lists of numbers. to terryfy a list such as [1, 8] he creates two lists [2, 9] and [3, 10], where each term is one more than the corresponding term in the previous list, and then joins the three lists together to give [1, 8, 2, 9, 3, 10]. If Terry starts with a list containing one number [0] and repeatedly terrifies it he creates this list:

                                                                   [0, 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 4, 5, 2, 3, 4......]

What is the 2012th number in this list?"

Have fun! Btw if you are interested this was the last question in the AMC (Australian Maths Competition) that I did earlier this week. And no, I didn't get it right. :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Who wants to race Polyton?

No more Math.

Wait, Solve this question, on my exam this year.

Use the disk/washer method to find the volume of the solid obtained by rotating the region bounded by y = x^3, y = 8, and x = 0 about the line x = 3.

I don't know it either :smileysad:

Re: Who wants to race Polyton?

I was just born good at maths... it's pretty much entirely luck lol. It's not like I get private tutoring or anything.
