I picked this game up for my 8 year old son. He had played and enjoyed the demo.
He's somewhat experienced at racing games. His favorite PS3 games are Burnout Paradise and Motorstorm: PR
He was able to beat the first few races but soon got to the point where he couldn't progress at all. I picked up the controller to help him and ended up spending several hours repeating the same track 20-30 times in order to beat it.
I read about casual mode and then checked to see if we could activate it. Turns out that it was on all along.
This game seems to be marketed to a young audience but the difficulty level doesn't reflect that. My son has gotten very frustrated and doesn't really want to play it if he has no chance of ever winning. Coming in 12th place in every single race is not fun.

I would recomend going into Time Trial Mode or Even Single Race mode and limit the Number of AI to the Minimum (3 I think). This will allow a cleaner track to pracice racing lines. boosting, drifting and Spinning (2 spins are worth a quarter boost bar). With the AI in the race Blocking can Be practiced. The main part of this game is not losing Speed (don't hit the walls) and Keeping the boost bar as full as possible, Meaning to always be refilling it as You use it.
