Disconnections galore! First Bboy and Jimp drop out in the first race, and we then restart it. In the restarted race deboss disconnects, and we do another restart. During the first race that counted Yuri dropped out for an unrelated cause. That's why his score is listed but is zero. Race 3 was also restarted. Because of all our race restarts (which came about as an idea of mine due to a lack of an official policy regarding disconnections) ripper171 got rather fed up with all the repetition and left too. BandaiNamco209 and Made_IN_Cuba_ no-showed the event completely.


Still was alot of fun tho! Even tho i was getting destroyed almost every race. Lol, great job hosting as well Angel.

Yeah, it was fund despite the connection probs.  Last week went off without a hitch though so hopefully the next weeks are the same.

 

It would however probably be good to have an official policy as to what happens when there are disconnects.  I was one of the two to be disconnected on the first race and I was glad to still get to do the race when I got back in the room but I did feel a bit bad about it, especially since it's isn't anyone elses fault that I got diconnected and we were already running 15 mins late. 

 

I would suggest that maybe we agree to restart a race if half or more of the racers get disconnected (hopefully this never happens) and if less than half get disconnected then we just accept it and those who get diconnected either get 0 points or maybe 1 point, whichever is more appropriate. I know this isn't ideal, but I for one am not that competitive and am in it for the good competition, great tracks and overall wholesome fun. I don't really care so much about points if ever I get diconnected again.

 

This is just a thought, but in any case, Ripper was right, we should have a policy concerning diconnects.

It was alot of fun and challenging. Maybe ill do it bit better next week.

I saw (Whilst i was lookin in the WHALE Cup thread) That Yuri's name was there too, i'm not sure if this gameroom was at the specific time WHALE Cup was started

Yeah, I got kinda p***** because of re-racing over and over and over the same tracks because this isn't really a competition, it's more about fun and I wasn't really enjoying it the way it was going. First we waited 15min for no show ups, then race the first track 3 times followed by racing the third track 2 times resulting in only 3 tracks in over half an hour... there must be a policy in place for this sort of situations.

 

I'd suggest:

  • Didn't show up? Too bad for you, races start on time anyways. Why wait? I don't get it. Most racers show up 10min early, add 15min waiting and there goes half an hour down the drain.
  • Got disconnected? Too bad again, races continue on schedule. Remember, this isn't a real competition. This is an event to keep MNR alive and have fun (at least it's how I see it).

It doesn't have to be exactly like I'm suggesting, but some policy must be adopted. I like JimpTrincker's idea of restarting if half or more of the room looses connection, restarting because of one player was ridiculous IMO.

I discussed this with AngelG and we have decided how to handle these situations in the future. Disconnected players will simply be disqualified from the race. There is no way half of the room would get disconnected at the same time so there are no restarts, ever.

 

I myself have opened the room 5-10 minutes before and started the races right around planned time. There may be exceptions (if one player is clearly going to join we might wait for a minute or two) but mostly we just go forward with the races. This has been my unofficial policy so far already.
