And... here we go again.  mini_schnauzer67's "Stairway to Heaven" was still being worked on!  He's been busy with the new track challenge, and hasn't gotten the chance to make any changes to it yet.  Me and abc123y didn't really like the track that much, and mini_schnauzer even said it wasn't one of his best tracks and was considering unpublishing it!

Re: Recent Hotlap Issues (Mark, please read)

Hi all,

Glad to address this and provide some answers.

1. atheistsw makes a great point but sadly the truth is that the "recent" change in my selections is mostly due to the recent lack of tracks to choose from. The past month + I have had to scramble to find 7 tracks fit to be in Hot Lap. As I have mentioned before I will go outside of the "normal process" to find worthy selections. Not blaming the community just stating that I can only select from what is given to me.

2. If I do not find enough good examples I will then look in the Track Creations section of the forums. Though these have not been submitted for HL There are some great tracks to be found. I don't read all the dialogue to find out where it is in the process. I assume that if its posted that its ready unless it says so right up front.

3. After that I will search for new creations from top track creators or join racerooms to discover new tracks.

4. In Mr Z's case I selected his track WELL before running into him in a raceroom. I even said "hey, check the blog next week!". I am sorry he though I disregarded his wishes. I did not. As I've mentioned sometimes I will set the blog off to the blog team as early as Wednesday before the blog. In that time lots can happen. In some cases players have taken down tracks that I had already chosen and this is why you may find some tracks running two days in a row to fill the void or an unannounced track that had to be placed in a the last minute. I wish I could avoid selecting any track with a version number in it. This would help avoid this completely.

5. I knew Biver_s track could cause a bit of a stir but again as i have said, I try to find the 7 most enjoyable racing experiences i can find. His indeed was not a textbook HL track but it needed to be seen IMHO. At almost 2 years into the game I have to SOMETIMES swap "letter of the law" for "spirit of the law"

6. Encroaching Desert by Its2l84that and Cowboy's & Indian's by Laidbackcat, were discovered in racerooms and I believed them to be GREAT tracks. (see #3)

7. I agree with the locking issue 100%. I am STILL working on a manual work around for this issue. Yes, I have been saying that for a while but I am trying.

9. Also please remember, If I was legalistic about ONLY choosing from submissions, we would have missed out on a lot of great tracks over the past year. My mission has always been to promote the best tracks that showcase what a great game and creation tool ModNation is. I have not wavered from this.

10.  Some top creators do not self promote. PH1 for example. I can not overlook his tracks only because he does not submit for HL

You guys have to remember sometimes I'm darned if you do, darned if I don't. I am giving it my 100%.   :smileyhappy:

Solutions:

1. Although I can't ask everyone permission to use their tracks I will look at the first few lines in a tracks post for a note to not choose.

2. BOTTOM LINE = I need more tracks to choose from!!!

As the game gets older it only makes sense that the submissions become fewer.. We are in a lull right now, I think it will swing back soon for a few reasons.

3. I will still need to choose from outside the submissions when need be.

I hope this helps explain things and clarifies a few issues. I will always listen as it IS your game but I can't always meet everyone's expectations, try as I might.

Thanks for coming to me.

Does this help?

Mark

Yes but if you read the whole post you would've seen that I wrote:

"I'll get back to this one later and re-publish it" or something along those lines...

Same with Stairway to heaven, can I republish it now quickly or not...

When I submit tracks for hot lap, it means they are done. Of my 4 tracks, I've submitted 2 for hot lap and the 2 I haven't submitted have been the 2 selected!

Still, what's wrong with a PM to sak if the track is done?

Well, I am actually creating again (if that matters) and i'm creating 2 tracks! 1 is probably going to be better than my..... other creations (they're not tracks, they're monstrosities!) and the other..... is VERY special! I just hope I can finish it this month!

Yes but if you read the whole post you would've seen that I wrote: YEP. I hear you.  but as i said I really cant read all posts in their entirety.

When I submit tracks for hot lap, it means they are done. Of my 4 tracks, I've submitted 2 for hot lap and the 2 I haven't submitted have been the 2 selected! I did not know that. Sorry. You have to admit that its kind of funny in an ironic sense.

Still, what's wrong with a PM to ask if the track is done? To be honest, time. Not only the time to send but the time to wait for a response and then keep them all straight. The only problem as I said was lack of tracks submitted for HL. ONLY when those numbers a low do we have any issues. This happens to be one of those lulls.

As you may see from this weeks blog I am practically begging for more submissions / creations! That will solve everything.

[ Edited ]

If Your Track is Not yet Finished You guys should simply put a "(TEST)" Or " Work in Progress" In The tittle This would Be an Easy indication For MNSD to see it is not ready for Debut.

When it is Ready Remove the (TEST) and leave it with /It's proper Tittle to Indicate It is Finished.

I agree with this, it has been a trend recently that everyone posts their tracks on the boards as "finished", then take them down when people have complaints, republish etc. It can be hard to tell when they are actually 100% finished. Why not do some playtesting yourself so the track would be complete when you publish it. No need to rush things.
