Conversion tools...

Hi Team PSS,

Will you be providing conversion/optimisation tools that will take a 3D model in another format ( say Cal3D ) and generate an equivalent and optimised version of it, for use in the PSSuite SDK?

This would certainly help to speed up porting of games to the platform, while ensuring the most optimised format is used for the devices.

What is the current PSS SDK 3D model format based on?

Please use plain text.

# The BasicModelSample 3D model is in .MDX for the runtime, with texture in .JPG. The .DAE file is also available in the sample folder. I tried loading the .DAE into blender and both the model and animation showed up correctly except there's no texture. The models was extracted from maya to Collada 1.4.1 according to the .DAE file, which is consistent with the the "Roadmap" saying feature planned for the future has "Support for model data output from 3D tools other than Maya"

# The RpgDemo 3D model is in .MDX format with texture in .PNG

# The ShootingDemo 3D model is in .MDX format with texture in .PNG

# The DefenseDemo 3D model is in .MDX format with texture in .PNG

# The SpaceRocksDemo 3D model is in .DAE format with texture in .PNG

The "Release Notes" also highlighted that "Model file format is under development. It may be modified in the future version. HighLevel.Model is under development. Not all functions are implemented."

I had a google search about .MDX files and came acrossed this wikipedia article

There's at least a ModelConverter under this path C:\Program Files\SCE\PSS\tools\ModelConverter
But of course, it will be nice if there are more conversion tools.

Re: Conversion tools...

For reference, looking through the config files for the converter, it looks like it handles:

  • dae
  • fbx
  • xsi (with caveat in the readme.txt)
  • mdx
  • mds

Most of my stuff is *.fbx, so as long as the converter handles the textures properly, I'm happy with it.

Hello.

I can convert wc3 mdx?

Thx

Re: Conversion tools...

You should be able to add your MDX straight into the solution, without the requirement for conversion (you can see how to link it up in the Model samples). If you have any problems, please let us know.

Re: Conversion tools...

Sorry just to clarify, Warcraft's MDXs are different than ours, so you will need to source a tool to convert it to one of our supported formats, to which you can then convert to our format of MDX.

Our supported formats are: dae, fbx, xsi, x
